I have a wonderful wife :)

It took quite a while for this to come in but a couple of months ago the present my wife wanted to buy me finally came in. In spite of sickness, weather and work I have managed to do a bit of shooting with it but wanted to post up a proper story once I had worked up some loads. It is a LH Savage 10 Predator Hunter Max 1 in 260 Rem and it is very accurate. The gun is very comfortable to shoot and the varmint version of the Accutrigger has spoiled me now :) So far I have managed to come up with a very good load of 41 gr of H 4350 with the 140 gr Ballistic Tip that the worst load was around a 1 inch 5 shot group on a very windy day, in calm weather it is much less. I'm also working with a bunch of other 140 gr bullets right now but these are consistantly doing well. Shot the 140 gr Deep Curl for the first time and there is no doubt they will be accurate, going to try them with H 4350 soon. I would have done a bullet test with them but didn't have enough jugs to do it today. I am thankful to God for a much better wife than I deserve.

These pics were taken a while ago, most of our snow has melted since it has been so mild here.

I was hoping that both of these would shoot well and am very happy to see that they do although I would like more speed with the Deep Curl load. Either one should perform very well on game at typical 260 Rem speeds. Looking forward to trying the 129 gr ABLR and the 123 gr CC match bullets when they arrive.

Nice... That .260 has all sorts of potential, and the Savage rifle - it's a great platform for accuracy!

Wow, very nice Gerry! That is a great looking rifle and your wife is tops buddy! That is very cool.

Your rifle looks like it going to be a great rifle and I am excited to see the 140 Deep Curls. That could be a serious game load up around 2700.. Accuracy seems awesome with everything.

Heck, I bet the 140 BT's will do decent at 260 Rem speeds as well..

Gerry,

That is a great and thoughtful present your good lady provided. You are definitely in the zone with those loads. I'll likely do some borrowing of your work when I get back to my own .260.

Thanks Gents, I'm a blessed man. The rifle is going to be a real tackdriver like most Savage's are.
Scotty, the 140 gr BT would be great at 260 Rem speeds for sure and the Deep Curl will be excellent as well. Mike you are welcome to any info I have, H4350 seems to be one of the top powders for it along with IMR 4350.

Very nice Gerry.
The 260 Rem looks to be a shooter.

Looks good Gerry! I found the same thing in my 260....H4831SC gave great accuracy but was slow and h4350 seems to give the best velocity of the powder I've tried and accuracy was still really good. I'm also itching to get my hands on some of the 129gr AccuBond LR's.... I think those are going to be amazing out of the 260!

Congrats on a great wife and rifle. A buddy had one in 243 Win that was amazingly accurate out of the box with little load work.

I would say you are blessed . that is one heck of a birthday/anniversary present.
You will have that 260 shooting tiny groups real soon.
Congrats on both your birthday and anniversary :!:

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks all.
Tim, H 4350 definitely is one of the great 260 Rem powders, it sure has done well in yours too. I bought the last 2 lbs of it in our town so now have a bit over 3 pounds which should last till be see the stuff again in a year or so. Hope it works with the Deep Curls too. Picked up 1000 more CCI 200's and 100 Federal 210M to try with the 123 gr Nosler CC's. I tried some IMR 7828 ssc too and it did pretty good for speed and accuracy but H 4350 shot better. Hope to get out again early Saturday morning again for some more fun :)

That is a nice gesture from your wife Gerry, and it certainly seems to shoot well? Congratulations on the great gift.

Went out today, I was a bit off for some reason but managed to get a good group at the end. I will do a bit more work with the 140 gr Deep Curl and H 4350, it shows some promise. The bullet produces a fair bit less speed at the same charge (41 gr H 4350) compared to other 140 gr bullets so it looks like there is a bit of room to go up from there. I tried a bullet test today with the Deep Curl but the bullet deflected out after 5 jugs and I couldn't find it, need to drink some more milk :) With the 130 gr AccuBond and 43 gr H 4350 I was able to get this group.

I should think that AB would work well on game, Gerry. Have another glass of milk on me.

Very cool Gerry. Looking forward to seeing what you get with that 140 DC.. It should be a heckuva bullet.
