Yes, getting ready for next weeks hunt with my Nosler M48 TGR in 7mm-08 and my 145gr speer loads were not consistent on my second batch of loads which were loaded just as the first batch and I am anal enough to make sure. I got the same velocities as before but not the same accuracy. Really frustrating indeed. I used up my first box of 145gr Speers and these today were from another box of Speer bullets. So I though my bedding might be loose or my scope giving me trouble and to just make sure that it was not the rifle or scope, I had some 140gr AccuBond loads left from my first two hunts with this rifle and the 140gr Accubonds I knew would make a ragged hole if I did my part and nothing was wrong with the rifle bedding, mounts, rings or scope.

Well the 140gr AccuBond moving 2817fps using W760, Fed 210 primers and Nosler five new brass and five once fired brass did what that load always does. What is so wild is that I started out with five left over from my first hunt (new brass and the second five shots from once fired brass from my second hunt) and this is the group. What a combination of Nosler rifle, bullet and brass, it just does not get better than this.

Nice.

I must have missed it--why did you want to use the Speers?

I was able to get 2954fps using RL-17 and still was under published max and that put me at 280 velocities and the initial load work was producing 3-4 tenths of an inch groups, but not with the next box of speer bullets.

I'd have to ask the same question. It's hard to beat dem Accubonds.

The BC on the 145gr Speer is 502 and at 2954fps on the average shooting just under a half inch is why I was going to use them. I had already kill three deer on the second hunt with the 140gr AccuBond and I am fixing to hunt some gas lines in South Louisiana and there are some long shots and wanted to compare both bullets on deer. There is no such thing as the best all around bullet but the AccuBond sure gets close, plus, I don't like to do boring stuff like one load for everything, I like game specific loads so I do a lot of load work with lots of different bullets and then take game with them to compare. Over the years I have a good understanding of cup core, bonded and monolithic performance on game because of this. Just a thing I do and Accubonds have not always preformed flawlessly in the field although I use them a great deal.

Another great group, Mike. Yeah, I'd say you're about set!

Yes Doc, just two clicks right and two clicks up and I am ready to go at 235 zero -5 at 300yds

Mike,

That 140 gr AB group is a keeper for sure!

If you want to try a different bullet, give the 140 gr PT a try. Another excellent bullet to consider would be the 150 gr PT.

You're killing me man!

You could try 120 BT's ......just for a change of pace.
Reloading is sometimes a sickness. Can never settle for just one accurate load, I mean whats the fun in that?

Long

Nice shooting Mike. I don't think it's all the rifle, some of it has to be the tinkererer (is that a word? ) behind the thunder stick!

Lets just let it be the rifle because I sure don't want to be left with that nick name.

What did that ragged hole measure? Are you going to fix this thing until it's broke?

It measured .437" You mean this thing is fixed????? I have game specific loads now - 120gr BT for varmint, 140gr AccuBond for what ever I usually hunt along with the 150gr BT, I have some very interesting 160gr loads shooting 3/4" and moving over 2748fps and I have one more load to develop with a 175gr bullet that I will finish after hunting season. I will have varmint, medium size big game (100-300yds), Long range Medium game load (out to 600yds), large game (100-300yds), and up close in thick cover on large game loads before I finish.

It all gives me some interesting choices when I go to the field with my 7mm-08 so if I want, depending on conditions, I can be game specific. My all around knock around loads will be the 140gr AccuBond or 150gr AccuBond (both shooting about the same). The reason I do it this way with my rifles (specific loads for specific game and keeping a record of my scope settings) is that I believe that shot placement is the absolute most important first thing along with bullet construction for specific game to be taken cleanly and effectivly. This gives me total confidence in the field with my rifle, leaving me with only my sight picture to consider.

Now that said, when it comes to push and shove and I am going on a hunt not knowing what to expect and it is not for dangerous game, I would opt for the 140gr AccuBond.
