I had another great year of deer hunting. Although I didn't connect on another trophy I did see several while cross bow hunting and rifle hunting. I even had the crosshairs on a trophy buck's shoulder but hesitated because I could some of a tree (the tree the stand was in) in the scope. I lifted my head to be sure the bullet would clear the tree and tried to scooch over a bit for more clearance. Before I could get the cross hairs settled back on the shoulder, the trophy buck bolted.
I did end up shooting smaller bucks with the cross bow and the .270 Win rifle. I also shot a doe with the 450 Marlin.
I used the 150 BT on the buck I shot with the .270 Win. The distance was 160-180 yards. I went for a heart shot and hit the heart. I was very pleased with the expansion/performance of bullet.
I used a handloaded Hornady 350 Interlock FN on the doe I shot with 450 Marlin. It knocked the deer right off it's feet. The bullet went diagonally through the rib cage, entering on the last rib on the right side (breaking 3 ribs) and exiting in the front of the shoulder on the left side. I liked the performance better than the 325 flextip I used last year.
My new boss came to hunt with me on the first day of gun season. He connected on the biggest buck he ever shot just 5 minutes into the season. It was the first deer he had shot in 5 years. So, he was pretty pleased.
