Sort of a spin-off from ldg's "Perfect Pair of Model 70s" thread...

I decided I had to have another of these rifles to go with my .270 Featherweight, and under the kind auspices of members from this forum, I settled on a .338 Winchester. As with the Featherweight, fit and finish are excellent and the grain in the stock is outstanding. This pair of cartridges, with the .30-06 nestled in between, ought to nicely cover the western hemisphere.

I have a VX-II that will go on it, and have a box each of 180 ABs and 210 PTs to work with. However, with 9 credits this semester evenings after work and on weekends, it may be later this summer before I have a chance to do much with it.

Congrats! Can not go wrong with that caliber!

Nice choice! Both rifle and caliber are winners. The 338 WM is one of my top two favorite big game calibers.

Those Winchesters are handsome, and they do shoot. You are covered for any big game in North America, and much of Africa.

Yep, should be good to go for most anything short of Cape Buffalo.

Now you just need to round out your nasty weather battery.

I will be the first to admit, I am a complete pushover for black walnut and blue steel. 8)

Thank you guys for the encouragement!

Very nice looking rifle! I bet she's going to be a shooter. I cannot wait for my son to get a scope on his to try it out. That's the first new Winchester for us and I'm excited to see how it works.

A classic rifle and caliber, beautifll stock! Congratulations. Looking forward to your range report.

Very nice rifle. Must admit I miss my model 70. It was my first bolt gun. Oh well someday I'll get another.

Hegland! Congrats on that rifle! That is very nice! I have a M70 338WM also, it is an older New Haven rifle, but man, it shoots. That has some really nice wood and looks awesome. RL19 is your friend! You are well covered now. Can't imagine a better set of rifles than a 270W and a 338WM. Hard to do much better, and M70's to boot! Scotty
