After the Savage AXIS build in 300WSM the "Smacksys" only one of its kind, my friend asked me to do the same to his .243 Mossberg Patriot.

I dug around my pile of barrels and found a nice heavy profile .308 barrel that I chambered in 300wsm and threaded for the Mossberg (Same as a Savage) and cut muzzle threads for brake.
The Mossberg bolt head was the primary issue as it had a standard bolt face. If this was a Savage I would have just ordered a Magnum bolt head but no such luck on these Mossberg's. So I took the bolt head apart and set it up in the lathe. I had PLENTY of meat to open it to the magnum size bolt face.
I put the bolt back together and found the Savage 110 extractor to fit and work perfectly with the Magnum case. These rifles seem to have a lot of compatible parts with Savage, but NOT the bolt heads themselves. While putting the extractor detent ball back in the bolt face I shot three of them to outer space never to be seen again, grrrrr. Ordered more...

Now I have the barrel on the action and head spaced. I am going to have to inlet the Factory Mossberg stock for this barrel but the build is getting close. This rifle uses a plastic removable magazine that should be trivial to modify for the 300wsm cartridge.

I have included a teaser picture, I will update once the build is complete (Waiting on more of those DAMN detent balls to arrive).

I think I will name this The Maxberg Magnum, I suspect it will be the only one in existence like the Axis I built.

Also included a pic of the Smacksys AXIS build from last year.
