Got invited to go on my nephew Mitch's limited entry Utah antelope hunt. He doesn't like his 30.06 and asked to borrow my 7mm08-which I took, but also tossed in my new 7mm stw. The big 7 is a serious work in progress especially since I have been tinkering with the ablr hoping to make the stw my "long range hunting rifle." The night before I explained the advantages or drawbacks of both rifles and he decided to use "little Frank" if the shot was 300 yards or under and the big 7 if things went beyond that range. The higher powered scope was the true determining factor.
We spotted a nice buck and made a careful stalk. We spotted the buck as he looked in the wrong direction, already broadside but unaware of our prescence. At 350 yards I was glad we had brought the bigger gun as he laid it on the tripod sticks. It seemed like he took FOREVER to pull the trigger and the buck dropped in my binoculars before I even heard the shot. He spined the buck so can't really say how the bullet performed except to say it did what it is supposed to do.
This is Mitch's first big game animal and the first animal for the stw and the ablr's I have loaded for it. It was a great experience with a good stalk, a great shot and a very nice antelope with good mass, length and shape. Great way to spend a Saturday, can't wait for my own chance to use that setup sometime soon!

Great pictures and recap of the hunt. Tell your nephew Mitch congratulations.

Indeed, a beautiful buck. Congratulations to Mitch. And, thank you for encouraging him in his hunt. He scored very well on this hunt.

Awesome! Congratulations to Mitch. Sure makes us easterners jealous...

Congratulations to Mitch and yourself, nicely done.
What was the terminal performance of the 7mm 168 gr ABLR?

Yup, Congratulations!

I see a good looking pronghorn and a big grin. That's what it's all about.

A 7STW with the 168AB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like a BANG-FLOP to me   .

Good shootin',

Shot was through and through so no bullet to inspect. Spine was thoroughly broken and the associated meat with it (no tenderloins for dinner) and the animal never so much as flinched.
The load is rp brass once fired, fed 215m primer and 80 grains of retumbo, bullet seated 3.60 overall length about the same depth for other loads in this rifle. SorryI don't know the speed-
I've noticed that the third time I load this brass the primer pockets start to loosen, so I may back it off a bit but that is the first problem I have encountered and that is, as stated not until the third loading. Maybe that is normal for the stw, it's kinda new for me still

Hmmm....Those pictures look so good. Big Grin, beautiful buck, sage brush and beautiful country. Hurts and mkaes me happy for you both, all at the same time. Congrats for you and well done!

Great work! Looks like a great antelope. Good shooting on Mitch's part and way to stoke the fire!
