Antelope hunts

Sheesh! I can even see Gil getting excited and wanting to come along. I'll have to hold him in check.

One more Canadian and it could be construed as an invasion!

Not if we don't bring arms! In that instance, we'd have to ask Americans to provide arms and ammunition. Of course, in light of recent history, I suppose that is a possibility, especially if we were to make the request of the government.

I could get excited about this, Scotty. It would be great to take some time to visit with a number of fellows in the west.

This coulld potentially be a cool social gathering.

I think we will need hip waders to get through all of the BS that will flow! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Not from this side of the border. Canadians are a truthful lot, not given to braggadocio.

If there is room I'd be interested in meeting you guys also. I have a few spare rifles to bring for people who need one. I'd even let you use the custom ones and shoot my cheap Ruger American. I am hunting Wyoming's Unit 75 this year but it is one of the tougher draws and I only draw a tag every 2-4yrs. Saw lots of low to mid 70" goats around Douglas on a hunt last year. I will post on how I do in 75 this September.

I'd bring my hip waders too, just in case.

I'm enjoying reading this Canadian/American foray for Speedgoats.
I've met my wife, my two hunting partners, and a very good friend that I introduced to my boss, who are getting married BTW, through the internet.
Keep us updated on this adventure. I'll be in WY late in the Speedgoat season with my hunting partner. Save a couple for me, five actually.

Uh-oh, now we're moving from hunting speed goats to getting married. My wife likely won't let me go. There is no question but that the Internet has expanded opportunities to meet people, however. I can't imagine a finer group of men and women than those I've met on this particular forum.

Here in Montana, I try to avoid the opening weekend of Antelope season. Seems most everyone hits opening day hard, then never go back. The couple nice bucks I've collected were taken on a Thursday following the season opener, and I didn't see another soul on the public lands where I drew the tags (SW Montana). It's actually possible to do a stalk when there isn't anyone else out there. I hunted on opening day just one time, and it was comical watching the dozen or so hunters in a 2-3 mile radius from my elevated perch (one little band of goats, and hunters coming at them from all directions - some of foot, and some in vehicles.). The guys trying to do a concealed sneak using what cover was there didn't have a chance.

Looks like this is building some momentum :) Ran the idea past my wife and she thinks it is a great thing to try and plan. She wants to plan it quite early so she can also come down and maybe do a horse back riding trip somewhere or maybe go and speak at a conference.

So how does it work down there for Canadian residents to hunt do we have to appy for a draw or is there another way?

gerry,

There are over the counter tags in WY but generally the best tags require a draw. If you just want to have fun and don't care about a trophy you can do like a friend and I are doing. We bought 4 doe antelope tags each over the counter. It was 148.50 for all 4 tags and a conservation permit. It's a cheap way to go antelope hunting even if you don't draw.

Am truly looking forward to the upcoming pronghorn season! I've seen those rascals for years on my trips EAST  but have never hunted them. This season, I will.

Can't think of any reason my go-to mule deer rifle won't work, so that's what I'll take to Wyoming: .25-06 Rem 700 CDL with a 6x Leupold, sighted in at 300 yards, running 115 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets at 3100 fps... Should work out just peachy, and yes, I plan on stalking those rascals afoot and having some fun trying for my first 'lope.

Dang, this could become addictive!

Guy

Good intel; unfortunately, it won't happen this year. Next year is a possibility, however.
