Any plans for a new rifle in 2025?

It looked a bit different so looked into a bit more, its not just your ordinary 1911, did you know what it was when you got it?
I did know what I was looking for. Quite honestly the best deal I’ve made on a gun in a long time. Older guy who had acquired quite a collection of guns he didn’t use. Thinning the herd to buy just a couple of top end guns I was told. I don’t believe the gun was ever fired.

The magazines are supposed to hold 8 rounds, I was lucky to get 7 in them, only 2 came with the gun. There are magazines available, probably pick up just a couple more. Given the ample mag well I also need thicker pads on the bottom of the mags. With the thin ones getting the magazines to fully seat was not automatic. I lucked out on a holster as the new pistol fits quite snugly in a near 30 year old Galco holster I have for my Springfield 1911. I’ve read people have had difficulty getting the Sigs to fit in a standard 1911 holster given the beefier slide. I was thinking about replacing the holster anyway as my Springfield was feeling kinda loose.
The trigger on this thing had me saying “wow” after the first magazine, minimal take up and a crisp break but not too light. The sights are Dawson Precision and are probably the best set of sights my old eyes have tried to use in a long time. They are not night sights so the pistol will not get night stand duty and otherwise I’m rarely out after dark and in bed by about 2100.
I’ve never used a high end 1911 like an Ed Brown or similar. This pistol is a definite step up from the Springfield TRP I’ve owned for years or my recently acquired Kimber. What I’m really worried about now is going through all that 40 cal I have stashed in the shop.

Gotta like it when you find a gem like that!
Even better when it is a great deal to boot!

Kimber used to offer a thicker magazine pad as an accessory...not sure if they still do. Might be an option for you.
Which Galco holster is it that fits your new Kimber? I need a good holster for mine, although yours looks like it is for the 4" barrel???

Picked up my first Weatherby, a Mark V Accumark in 257 Weatherby. While not a rifle, I also got a Mossberg 835 Turkey which I bloodied this past weekend. I haven't shot the Weatherby yet but will soon.

I'm probably going to trade off the beautiful 7mm Rem mag, Winchester Model 70 Super Grade for something else. Much as I like the Model 70, I already have a Ruger Number One in 7mm Rem Mag that I like better. Both shoot well. I just like the falling block more. Might trade it for a 357 or 44 or 45 lever action Marlin or Henry. Those seem like a lot of fun.

Regards, Guy

There was a Marlin 336 in 35 Rem at our local Cabela’s yesterday for $579 I think it was. Call the Centerville OH Cabela’s and they would ship it to your local store. It was in really good shape. I almost bought it.

I picked up (4) boxes of 7mm PRC ADG Brass and a Redding Competition Seating die, along with a VLD Stem. It’s a shame they’re caliber specific, but as you can see from the rub mark on the bullet it matches it up PDG!

I’ll polish it to remove the tooling marks and then it’ll be flawless for seating.

The SAC Modular sizing dies allows for endless flexibility to Wildcat cartridges as long as you’re just necking up or down.

Easy peasy with the proper neck/shoulder bushing , I used a (.283”), and a (.2535”) mandrel to neck down in one pass.

The photo is Nosler’s 25 cal. 115 Ballistic Tip seated too: 3.200” which still gives me caliber length of the bullet into the slightly longer neck of the 25/7 PRC round.

I have everything except a magnum bolt, and the MCS T Stock which are both on order for now.

I think it’s going to be a low recoiling power house similar to the 257 Wby. I have a Benchmark CFW 24” 7.5 twist in a Sendero Light contour that when chambered and threaded will be roughly 2.8 lbs which is the same weight as the complete action with the bottom metal.

I’m thinking it will be right at Hunter Benchrest weight of 10 pounds with the scope and rings installed. image.jpg

I finally got out to shoot the new to me LH Sako 591 in 257 Roberts today. Wanted to make sure it was sighted in before trying handloads next week.
Nosler 110 gr AccuBond ammo: 3010 fps out of the 22" barrel (40 fps less than factory spec of 3050), ES of 32.1, SD of 14.7, 3 shot group of 1.029"
Winchester 117 gr Power Point ammo: 2770 fps, ES of 55.3, SD of 24.7, 3 shot group of 1.422"
Might not be the most accurate with this ammo, but was pleasant to shoot, and the trigger was nice and crisp. Bullets cut nice clean holees in the paper, so the twist will be fine for the 115 BT.
I'll look at upgrading the Compact Leupold 3-9 later. Gloss VX-3 3.5-10x40 w/ B&C???

Handloads will be with the 115 gr Ballistic Tip in WInchester brass, using F210M primers, using Re-22, Re-17, and H-414. (Have a decent supply of each)
Expecting velocities in the 3000-3100 fps range. We'll see which powder it prefers!
Now to prep some brass!

Is that a Peak 44 stock?
Sorry just seen your question. Yes it is a Peak 44 stock, this one it the Black tooth model with the more classic swept back pistol grip I prefer, over the more vertical grip on Bastion. Now together on the 7 3/4 lbs 338/06 AI as setup, and the finest stock I've owned for soaking up recoil, as well as being forgiving, with no trace of being hold sensitive.

22 and the 115’s should sing in your rifle. JD did load work with his and it was pretty impressive. Accurate and very quick when loaded to 62k.

QuickLoad shows Re-22 breaking 3100 fps at just under 65k.
Will work up from about 58k (+P pressure) and see how she goes. Looking for accuracy over velocity

I’d imagine you won’t have to work too hard if the scope and gun are straight.

I'm getting 3100 fps with the 115 gr BT and RL22 in my 700 Classic 257 Roberts. The secret is the Remington long/magnum length action and seating the bullet out to a coal of 2.900".
