Athlon 10x42 fixed power scope

Anyone try one of these yet? Thinking about trying one on my 260 Rem. I like the simplicity of a fixed power scope but they are hard to find these days.

I haven't tried one, but I too really appreciate a good fixed power scope.

Love how they call it a second focal plane scope as it really doesn't matter with a fixed power scope. The reticle is always the same size. Everything stays the same except focus for individual eyes, windage & elevation adjustments. That's about it. Some do have adjustable parallax.

I noticed that too. I guess they are just being accurate on where the reticle is even though it functionality won't make a difference. I moved on from my Leupold fixed powers since they wouldn't stay zeroed but would like to have at least one fixed power scope again. I believe Meopta makes an 8x56 still. Maybe there are others out there making them still.

Dang! My Leupold 6x scopes (both 36mm and 42mm objective varieties) have stayed zeroed for years and many shots! The 2.5x is even more impressive, hanging in there with heavy 45-70 loads. I've also got a 6x SWFA scope that simply doesn't shift zero. It's a sturdy one, but a bit bulky and heavy for a general purpose hunting rifle.

Scotty disagrees with that, but he's a lot bigger, stronger and younger than I am.

I know that they can be good and hold zero but one I had was 8" high at 100 yards one day unfortunately for no reason. The other one I was always having to tweak zero but in fairness that could have been the mounts. Loved them and wish someone would make a solid fixed power. SWFA scopes are unavailable here in Canada sadly or I would have one.

I do know on the lower end Athlons the image degrades as you max out the zoom power. Being a fixed 10X there should be no worries on that.

I'm all for fixed powers. Dads K-4 has ridden on top of his 7 Mag for 60 years. Dont shoot it enough or well enough to know that iti dosent hold zero. My 2 in groups arent much of an indicator though. The k-4 on Mom's rifle is about the same. I have a 4x Bushnell on my .22. Havent adjusted it for years unless I wanted too. My variables sit on 4x or 6X when hunting.

@Guy Miner since you are also fixed power scope fan maybe you and Gavin could do a review on this scope. I see he has reviewed Athlon in the past and this one would be right up your alley. Would be awesome on your 308, 6.5 Creed, 25-06 or even one of the varmint rigs.

I'll mention it to Gavin. Hard to say if he'd be interested in it or not. I hope so! I could see it on the 6.5 Creed with rockchuck & coyote hunting in mind.

Depends on the intended use of the rifle... I'd hate to be stuck with a fixed 10x for general purpose hunting, but for varmint shooting it would be fine.

1980's USMC - our M40A1 sniper rifles had fixed 10x Unertl scopes. They were sturdy as all get out but a variable would have been an advantage for that purpose.

Guy you're not going to believe this but I have and "old" Weaver K3 that has been bounced around on a number of rifles and I have never had a problem with maintaining a zero on it. The scope does what it is told and just keeps on trucking along.
