Bad Range Day

Had the worst day at the range I've ever had.
Even a buddy said he's never seen me shoot so bad. [emoji20] I was wondering what was going on. My half MOA load was now shooting triple MOA at 200 meters.
After pulling some bullets, and finding that correct, I deduced that is most likely the action screws. I recently had the stock off and tightened everything back without the aide of a torque wrench.
I've got more loads made up and I'm going to head back to the range later this week. I'll shoot a group and then back off the rear bolt, and keep doing that, until I find the sweet spot again.
Just in case I run in to problems in also going to sight my. 338 Win Mag in. That will be my back up deer rifle.
Ggrrrrr......

To piggyback on my own thread:
Should I loktite my action screws once I find the sweet spot?

If it were me I wouldn't go the Loctite route. I have a pre-64 Winchester in 270 that I could not get to shoot better than 2" with the traditional 130 gr bullet. I pulled the stock to get a look see at the bedding and someone had done something inside that lug area I didn't like. I put some Accu-glass in it and afterwards left the forend screw out totally. Groups shrank to 3/4". I don't dare touch it anymore. Sweet spots are hard to find and once found, I leave them be.

I always use a torque wrench. I'd never guess where 35 ft/lbs was otherwise.

I would definitely eschew the use of Loctite for my action screws.

The wise ones have spoken and I will heed their advice.

I've never used thread locker on action screws...but I do re-torque them when I give the rifles their yearly cleaning.

I have had screws back out over time and have 8 Weatherby Rifles and would not install an action screw without it! Trick is using the rite color! Purple is your friend!
