I can say that barnes don't just penetrate great, they give off some nice hydraulic shock also. I almost misssed my VT whitetail just hitting the spine above it's rear hips.(They always want to run away here in VT ) The shock wave decitigrated the spine and everything around it, lodging in a maple tree. Will try and recover the bullet to post some pictures.

Wow. I can't say that this is the experience of most people, myself included. Monolithic bullets are difficult to recover because they pass through the game shot with them, much as the bullet you mentioned passed through, disintegrating the spine (quite a tough assignment for a bullet) and lodging in a maple.

unfortunately most of the backstraps a gone. the only thing really holding the rear on was the hide

I got to reading your reply again Doc and I think you mis understood me. I was saying how not only do they penetrate great but massive hydraulic shock also. sorry for the confusion. here in Vermont we speak with double negatives with red neck spelln.

Looking forward to the photos of your recovered bullet and a hearty congratulations on taking the deer!

I did misread barthowes post. He is correct that the TTSX bullet works very well (some would say overly well). It was a good post, but I read poorly. Consequently, I have found that the E-Tip bullet produces a deep, massive wound channel as well. Generally speaking, the newer generation of monolithic bullets are excellent. I cannot say that I have used GMX bullets to kill any animals yet, though I have done load development. However, I have no doubt that they will perform just as do Barnes and Nosler to effective kill game with deep penetration and massive wound channels.

Good luck recovering the bullet, looking forward to seeing it.
You are correct, the monolithic bullets penetrate into tomorrow!

That is the bullet I loaded up for my wife's 30-06 this year for elk but didn't get to test it as she opted for the 7mm08 instead plus the closest elk we saw were a good 1000 yards away. I'm glad to hear they work good on deer and congrats on your buck!

Maybe BARNES its a great bullet, but MY bullet is NOSLER, say it AccuBond or Partition, hunted long time with
ballistic tips without a problem, extremly accurate bullets (also the rifle). Energy behind my animal for me wasted
energy, I want the hydraulic shock inside my animal. Maybe just getting old but my bullet 100% is NOSLER.

I love Nosler bullets as well, but after trying 4350, 4064, and RL22 with the 165 AccuBond in this particular rifle and not the groups I was looking for, I turned to the TTSX which provided much better accuracy. I have also found better accuracy in another rifle using Partitions over the AccuBond. Sometimes, not often, things just don't work out as I would hope and I will pick unbiased accuracy every time.

You can pretty much expect that with any bullet more or less.
