Everyone,

I am looking to have a barrel refinished/recoated with some sort of hard coating. I am tired of the bluing and want some black that wont scratch/scuff as easily. What has worked well for you in the past, and if you dont mind me asking how much did it cost, how long did it take and who do you recommend. Thanks for the info.

(f I was going to refinish a barrel into polished black, I would electroless nickel flash plate with black nickle oxide. I have seen a few of these and they are tough and look great.

There are several spray on coatings used now such as Cerakote.

What is the general opinion about Cerakote from those that have had experience?

The newer spray on finishes are tougher than the older finishes like Teflon but they still scratch off with hard use.

I think Brian and I are looking at KG finishes.. Never used it, but Joel does and I like the looks of his rifle finished in the stuff.

I work with a guy who went to the class to learn to apply it and duracoat correctly. He has done several shotguns for me and the guys I hunt with in both duracoat and cerakote. Both look awesome but I have to give the nod to cerakote.

I prefer Teflon on the basis of looks. However, Teflon is not as tough as Cerakote. As an aside, even Cerakote will scratch; however, one has to work at it.

Anyone have recommendations for people/companies that will apply Cerakote?

Where are you located? I can talk to the guy I work with, he does great work.
