Bear season for the first time in ten years closed this last week in Arizona due to the number of sows killed. So I have two useless bear tags. So, I just bought two lion tags so Jordan and I can at least hunt something although our chances have diminished a great deal. Needless to say, I sure have spend some money this fall on hunting and the fall for me has really just begun. Who knows, we might get lucky but the real fun will be Jordan and I out in the wilderness having a ball and we are both excited about it.

Mike, will you be running dogs for the lions? I am sorry to hear that the season was closed. However, just spending time with your grandson should be a wonderful opportunity. I'm pulling for you fellows.

Only one out of the four will we have dogs and then only for a morning hunt.

Hunting lions without dogs is tough stuff. I've tracked a cougar a couple of times, in the snow, but never caught up with it.

Amazingly a fellow I know was out bird hunting (chuckar) and crossed a lion track. Switched shells in his shotgun, followed the track and ended the hunt with a large cat down! It can be done.

Sorry 'bout the bear season shutting down. Consider, if you've got time for it someday, a bear hunt up here in the pacific northwest. Idaho, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and even northern California have large numbers of black bears - and some good color phases as well.

I think the last estimate of bears in Washington was somewhere around 30,000 of 'em and tags are sold online or over-the-counter. There's no draw involved, unless going for spring bear season.

Best of luck on your hunt - it should be a good adventure! Guy

Thank you Guy, we will be using dogs one morning but the rest of the time we are going to setup in an area where they have been spotted due to the fires in Arizona a lot of them have moved to the area where we are hunting and we will be using electronic calls hoping to intrigue one enough to check out our calling. I have actually on bear hunts encounter Lion so who knows what will happen.

I would like to hunt in the northwest for black bear and I will communicate with you after the first of the year so you can point out the best areas so I would not waste my first trip there, trying to figure out where they are. Jordan and I will have a lot of fun no matter what and if we call in a few coyotes we will have fun there also. Just the special time with Jordan in a spacial place will be for me the trip of my life and I have been on a lot of hunts, but this is my first one with my grandson out west and I can't tell you guys how much I love this boy. Yes, just a special time indeed.
