Benchmark barrels ?

I believe Gerry has a rifle built with a Benchmark barrel--35 Whelen, as I recall.

There are a few guys on here that have used them for various builds. Mine is a SS 1 in 12 twist 35 Whelen that I have mentioned a bunch of times and it does shoot well. Doesn't foul much either, I would buy another after my experience with this one.
A 1 in 8 twist is definitely the proper one for any 6.5mm cartridge, sounds like it will be a really nice build.

Nice shooting Gerry .
I'm already running a 1/8 McGowen on my 264 Win Mag.
It would make an excellent L/R gun but for the recoil.
The one thing I can't find is a contour chart or diagram for their barrels .
Are they comparable to Shilen, Bartlein, Kreiger ect ?

Mine is a copy of a Pac Nor #4 I believe they can do almost anything you want. The 260 AI will hardly kick at all and be very accurate.
I know there are a few other guys that have Benchmark barrels here, Jmad 81 comes to mind. A 7mm STW maybe?

I have the PacNor on my 35 Whelen and have had nothing but excellent results so if the Benchmark is made off the PacNor I believe it is top shelf :mrgreen:.

Jake "Jmad 81" used a Benchmark for his 338-375 build and I think his 6.5 SAUM also? Had nothing but good things to say about them. I'm sure he will be along with details.
Yep, I have a few of them. One on my 338/375R, one on my 6.5 SAUM, and one on my STW. They shoot very well. My STW is a three groove and the others are all 5R rifled. The three groove seems to clean a bit easier. The #4 on my 338/375R shows some great potential, but I think that I didn't do as good of a job of bedding as I should have. I'm having another stock built for it just like the one on my 6.5 SAUM, and I will have the smith bed it.Woodycreek":3e6i2vjk said:

I'm still getting it broke in, so I'm cleaning it more than I would like, but it is sure a shooter. I put five on the 600 yard gong the other day. The wind was blowing 0-5 mph (not sure if that really counts as blowing or not) across the target and with no rear bag off a bipod I was able to keep my vertical group under 2" while my left to right was under 5". I fully believe that if I had had bags and made corrections for the wind I could have kept the group under 2" pretty easy.
The STW is a 1:9 Sendero contour and shoots very well. I just need to quit screwing around with every new thing that comes out and stick with something. It has taken several speed goats out to 680 yards, a elk, and is now my wife's favorite rifle. It has shot the 160 AB very well, the 162 A max EXTREMELY well, and I thought I had the 168 ABLR dialed until I saw Fotis was getting more speed out of his 7 mag than I was with my STW :x
All the barrels I have are fluted, and they did a fine job with the flutes. One thing that I really like about them as well, is their turn around time. Usually a guy can have a barrel in 4-6 weeks. I have seen more than a dozen Blagg rifles (Darrin Blagg built my 338/375R, STW, and 6.5 SAUM. He uses Benchmark exclusively, unless something else is requested) that have benchmark barrels on them, every single one of them shoots .5" groups or better. Most of them are in the .25" average group size once a load is developed.
I would say that you would not be disappointed with Benchmark.

That's an excellent review Jake, as they get more popular the wait times will get longer Mine was shipped in under 2 months if I remember correctly.

I built my 300 jazz "improved 300 Norma" on a benchmark 1-9 twist 5R heavy palma. Barrel shoots as good as my bartleins. Great bunch of guys who support the shooting sports, they donated a barrel for our little jordan match. Benchmark is right up there with the rest of the big name barrels and better than most button rifled barrels. Buy with confidence and know if there is a problem you will be taken care of promptly. I used the jazz to kill my antelope at 975 yards this year, again great barrels.
