Benchrest questions

I'm thinking about benchrest shooting in my older age. If one wanted to build a budget rifle what would you build? Action? Barrel? Etc.
What caliber?
By budget I mean the most competitive rifle possible for the least money possible.

100/200 BR or 600/1000 BR?
The word, "Budget" and the word, "Benchrest" do not belong in the same sentence

I would look for a used benchrest rifle on Accurate Shooter forum or go to some BR matches, and you will likely find some there.
It will be the closest thing to "Budget" you will find and it will be designed for what you are looking for.

6 PPC for 100/200 BR
6 BRA for 600/1K BR

Budget? Depends on your ability and dedication to how far you want to chase the rabbit down the hole. As stated above watch couple of matches, check for rifles there or online as stated. Get started then go from there. I used to use, and some guys still use the 6mmBR out to 300yds. Accurate and good brass life.
