Beretta Mato

I know we had a thread a while back about a stock sale from the factory on these guns. I've looked that over and in all reality, I need another rifle like I need a hole in my head. But, need just doesn't have anything to do with it.

I'm not sure I'll be able to scratch this itch, but I'm looking for a Beretta Mato in 7mmRemMag if anyone knows where one is. Might even have enough cash to pay for one... Seriously, I did a quick search online and there just aren't any (regardless of chambering) for sale. Anybody know where one is? Maybe if it takes long enough, the feeling will pass...

I might be mistaken, but isn't the Mato just a rebranded Dakota 76? Plenty of those around.

Yes, but the Matos are running around 800-1000, and the Dakotas are running about 5x that. Also, only the first couple hundred Matos were Dakota actions, from my understanding. I may lose my desire if this takes too long. Of course, like any good virus, the desire will flare up again later on, I'm sure...

I might modify that a bit... the feeling for this one might pass. I am looking at, of all things, another .300 Magnum. Details may (or may not) follow.

Well, I found a NIB 270Win Mato, but $1300 is too rich for my blood right now. I'm hoping to run up on a good used 7mmRemMag iteration for $700-900 sometime. I may have found a way to scratch the itch a little, for less, though. I swung through a favorite gunshop while travelling earlier this week and handled a Winchester 70 Sporter in 30-06. Nice gun, for sure. Didn't have one in 7mm or I might have brought it home. Nice part is, the 7mm versions are coming with 26" barrels, which I like (from my Weatherby experience). We'll see.

I don't think I'd go quite that far, Woods, but I certainly understand the sentiment. I'm sure a new Winnie is a good rifle. Heck, Scotty seems to love them!

Hold out for the Mato. I've wanted one of those for a long, long time as well. Of course I've wanted a model 70 also, but the Mato has a cool factor beyond the M70, chiefly because the latter is still being made...

Those are some sweet rifles. EFW is right, they have a cool factor since they aren't being made anymore. I guess I can "live" with the M70! Scotty :lol:
