I can not understand the difference between the VLD Tactical OTM and hybrid.

All as far as big game hunting is concerned that is.

I don't get it either my friend. I was an early advocate of the standard Berger VLD for deer sized game and took three mule deer with the .25 cal/115 gr VLD. With complete satisfaction.

But... I got sort of lost with all the developments in the Berger line since then.

It's an amazing time we live in, with so many different bullets in production. IF a guy can just find something actually in stock!

I know right?

I know the Hybrids are way easier to get to shoot! That is all I know!

First try with the 230's in my 30-378. Group is under 1/2".

Fotis - I can't help but think that anything getting slammed with a high velocity .30 cal, 230 gr bullet is going to notice... Briefly.

NICE GROUP

Found my notes. That is a .38" group BTW.

I know the 185 OTM Juggernauts were designed to go transonic in the 300 WM, according to the box sitting on my desk. I might be wrong, but I think the differences are sensitivity to seating depth vs. maximum BC. The VLDs have the highest BC, but are more sensitive to seating depth. The tactical bullets are less sensitive with seating depth for magazine fed rifles, but have a lower (But still outstanding) BC. The hybrids are somewhere in between.

The OTM Tactical bullets use a much thicker jacket and the Hybrid's use a combination scant/tangent ogive to help make tuning them much easier. But all the VLD's have a longer bearing surface compared to the same cal. and weight class, as well as the base to ogive length but have shorter boat tail's compared to the Hybrid bullets.

Honestly I never cared for Berger bullets, they never shot well for me, and they had to be seated way to deep for my liking. But this year I did find one to like from them, the OTM Tactical Juggernaut. It shoots a bug hole in my 300 jarrett and they are the only bullet to put dents in my Hardox Steel targets beyond 600 yards.... other the the big 300 SMK's from my Lapua Magnum.
