"Best" .270 bullet

The 150 PT gold was mentioned earlier. Yesterday at a local shop I saw a box of nosler 150 gr. PT Gold CT bullets. Are these the bullets that are "better" than the PT? How are they better? I may go back and buy them.

If you don't want them, grab them and I will pay you for them..

I won't say they are necessarily "better" than a regular PT, but the Partition is a little further forward, so you don't get quite as much expansion, but, oh man, they will penetrate far.

I have a couple of boxes I am reserving just for hunting. They shoot pretty well outta my 270WSM. I would gladly take another box should you grab them and don't wanna shoot them yourself.

This was my 300 zero..

They shoot identical to the regular PT's, I use RL22, CCI250's and get excellent speed out of them.

Yup if Scotty doesn't take them I will as well... Only if they are the Moly Free ones. It will say Moly free on the box.

I have shot 2 mulies and 2 elk with the PT Gold and recovered one from an elk and 2 from a mud embankment. 85% weight retention and perfect mushrooms.

There is also a steel cup inside the rear end that keeps the shank of the bullet from deforming and it just freaking plows through anything.

I bought 5 boxes back in the day when they went on discontinue many moons ago. I also only use them for hunting.

Good to hear. I will go get them after thanksgiving as they are closed tomorrow. Hope they are still there. I should of bought them yesterday! Sounds like a great bullet and if they shoot as good as a PT I will use them only for elk. If for some reason they don't shoot well you guys get first dibs!

3-shot 130 grain Partition, pretty typical group from late September this year.

+1! I use Hodgdon 4350 instead of IMR, but same result.

On the other hand, if you have MOA with the 150 Partition, I'd be tempted to call it a day and go find an elk...

Happy hunting!

Yeah, no worries with them shooting. I imagine they should shout identical to the 150 PT's. If'n they don't, I have a warm spot for them to rest.

SJB,

Those Partition golds are still in stock but they are moly coated. Im headed up that way tomorrow. I don't know much about the moly coating. Why would I want them moly coated, and what is the down side to moly coating?

If I decide not to get them do you still want them?

Yup, I will still take them. No downside to me being moly coated that I can tell. They all shoot the same from my rifles. I am not sure they are moly anyhow, I think they are Lubalox which looks the same but is different from moly.

I don't believe CT ever produced moly coated bullets. The proprietary coating was (is) Lubalox.

Mike, you ever noticed much difference between a Lubalox coated bullet? I know my 270WSM shoots the 140 AB uncoated really well and shoots the factory Supreme 140's the same.. Never noticed any difference.

Yeah I probably used the wrong term. These are blackish in color. If there is not a real downside I will pick them up tomorrow and try a few. If they shoot well I will keep them. If not, SJB, they are yours. Thanks again.

I've shot a ton of Lubalox bullets; all shot well and performed pretty much as expected. The 160 Fail Safe used to be a "go to" bullet in my 7mm RM, and the 180 grain Fail Safe was my bullet of choice for many years in the 300WSM. I started with the black Lubalox coating and bought up all the grey Lubalox coated bullets I could when they ceased production of the Fail Safe. They still shoot well and perform the same on game.

Sounds great SS. I think you'll like em. I love me some PTs and the PTGs are better yet!

Lubalox is a nickel based metallic powder coating process. A brush will clean it right out of a barrel.
