Went out solo, should still be out but came home for other reasons, and it was nice hunting solo.

Not much in the way of game glassed up. The moon had them feeding, watering, and traveling at night. Managed to glass up a forkhorn but missed him. 459 Yards and I didn't read the wind right. No way to stalk closer as he was acoss a canyon.

Took my blue heeler with me for company and for someone to talk to because I can't stand talking to myself. In talking with some other hunters in the area I saw as much, or more game, as anybody. One buck, the aforementioned forkhorn, and four does. It was tough conditions and the last three mornings the dog's water bowl was frozen solid. How's that for southern Arizona weather?

The dog did great. Being that I didn't see much game, and neither was the Swarovski bunch of hunters, I don't think the dog had any influence on the amount of game seen given that the distances I was seeing them at.

Now what made this hunt so great? Being in God's creation in all it's splendor. I had a long heart to heart with myself, with deep introspection and prayer, and came home to be a better husband to my wife. She's worth more than any deer.

I didn't take a lot of pictures this trip but I did get a couple.

Vince

Great report, Vince. Glad you had the time to ponder. Always beneficial to spend time in reflection.

Precious time my friend. When you realize the trophy is in the important relationships, you are blessed. Glad it was a good time for you. CL

Congratulations Vince... Talking to God through prayer is always good. You found more on this hunt than you can find through any rifle scope.. God Bless you and your family, and Merry Christmas.

Great hunt/camping, and the dog was good company I'm sure. Good prayer report too...now you are ready to read Ken Nairs book "Discovering the Mind of a Woman". Its a good one, but only for men who are "ready to hear", and sounds like you are Brother, :) What's your dog's name BTW?

Preacher,
Brewster Blue Boag. We call him Blue or Fecal Head. :)
Thanks for the book recommendation. I'll give it a go.

Well done Vince. Good days afield cleanse the soul. I think I might have to get the book as well, amazing what I learn on this forum.

"Fecal head"...ha, sounds like most of the guys I served with in the Army! lol I have a tiny Pomeranian...I have been known to call her 'Crap Weasel"! ha

That's a beautiful picture Vince and I don't know what makes getting out with a dog so much better than being alone, but it's amazing what company they provide. You should have included a photo of your pooch in the mix for us. You guys are needing to work on your photographs. Have you not heard it hear before, from Dr. Mike, that this forum is no good without pictures!!

Hey my friend it sound like you had a very productive hunt. Time in prayer is never a bad thing & I know exactly what you mean by having some alone time.
I am so glad you have your pryorties in line.
That truck tent seems to be a good investment as well (y).
Thank you for the post.

Blessings,
Dan

We enjoy God's grand outdoor creations every time we go afield. Always have time to give thanks for it all.

Good pic! I've done a couple backcountry solo hunts in Mt, It's a good way to find out what you're made of.
