Big Bucks from Maine

Darkhorse,
That is actually a complex subject you have asked about, but I can share this much with you.
When listening to a group of guys discussing the distances they travel in a normal days hunting,
You better be wearing your highest pair of boots, somehow men have decided over the years
That one of the best ways to embellish their hunting stories is to inject vast distances and
Brutal hardships into the main body of the story! So a buck shot 10 miles back, is worth say
Roughly 10X more than one shot only a mile back? Though one shot right out the pickup
Window is not absolutely worthless it still has some value............
How far the hunter travels even if he never gets a deer ( or even sees one), is soposed to keep
Him in high standings with his peers.......so after nearly 50 years of listening to these wild tales
Of phenomenal distances traveled, I now view any hunter that is walking over 5 miles a day , in
Darn good shape and a very keen man....... 10 mile a dayers, are almost Olympic material. And
20 mile a dayers, also usually can drink a half gallon of 151 rum a day,and posess a natural sense of direction that they were just born with, that is similar, but superior to, a homeing pigeon. They have slept with over a hundred Woman, all raging beautys! And all their guns shoot into the same hole at 500 yds!

Excellent write up 35 and excellent points made, thanks for the post it made my day.

If you can't embellish, why bother to tell? Earle, I imagine all of us have done this. We speak of those who kill elk at 650 yards--OFFHAND! We understand they were measuring in what we politely call Newfie meters. A bit of judicious inquiry usually makes the reality apparent.

Friends and I did pretty well in Maine this year. All these bucks dressed over 200 pounds.

Guys thanks! Those bucks were taken this past November. Quite a week. I started it off day 1 with the buck in the center. He weighed 252 on the hoof and 210 dressed. Largest there weighed 274 on the hoof, and 228 dressed.

Scotty I'd squeeze you in that duffel if I could! Northern Maine is a very fun hunt!

Minor detail....mine was taken with a 270 and 130 Partition. Bang flop!

After hearing the story on that hunt I'd be pretty excited to give it a try! Those big northern bucks are a ghost till the rut. Then it's any bodies guess where they could end up.

Another photo from Maine. (For some reason photo bucket was not well behaved yesterday). This is my buck, killed first morning.

I'd post a picture of a recovered bullet but it was a 130 NPT,so all it left was an exit.

You guys seam to get after it were ever you hunt! Nice pole of deer! Gotta be some darn good hunters in that group? (y)
Great job. Here is another tailgater with 27" lenght of beams 157 1/2B&C .......227lber one of our hunters shot with us a few years ago

35: Fabulous buck! Love those big Maine toads with those barrel chests! Well done!

Another excellent specimen of Odocoileus virginianus. That would make the most jaded PETA member take up the sport!

There is actually a movie of this guy after he has had a few toooo many of the old Dr McGillicuttys on youtube, talking about how he got the buck............. caution there is a bit of rough language rolling off his tongue, so some may not want to watch it! It is pretty funny to listen to if you can handle the swearing. I can post the link but don want to offend anyone..............
