Thought I would share and wet the appetites of those that will be hunting elk this year, especially those that get to hunt branched antlers. These pictures were taken recently out at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation which approximately 15 miles the way the crow flies from my house. Sucks though they can not be hunted. Anyway enjoy.

That is indeed a big boy! I certainly hope he gets to pass on his genes this fall. Is the region in which the picture was taken hunted heavily?

No, unfortanatly the Federal Gov might get upset if you go after this guy. The Nuclear reservation he is on has a very nice elk herd or two but absolutely no hunting. They sometime wander off onto huntable land but usually get smucked by a car on the highwy.

Corey,

I rather suspected that this must be a protected area. That is just too good to have not attracted attention in the past. Still, it is great to see such a titan. We used to live in Jasper, and there were several real monsters than came into town every year. One monster 7 x 7, affectionately named Samson, had his antlers cut off each year because he insisted on rutting on the grounds of the Jasper Park Lodge. Apparently, he was a discriminating lover; he had a real aversion to high-priced foreign vehicles. He never attacked domestic cars, but for at least three years or so that I know of he attacked Mercedes, Jaguars, BMWs and Lexus automobiles. Inevitably, after a few complaints, the park rangers would capture him and trim his antlers.

I got a picture in a email with 5 bulls and they were all about that big to bad you can't hunt in their.

That is a great bull elk! Wow, with an animal like that on the ground it would be hard to ever top it! Scotty

thats a good picture what a whopper maybe he would migrate o the cowiche in time for my wifes season

Seems as though there was one out there several years ago that was killed during some kind of season "near by" and created a big stink. If I remember right it it was not entered in the books because of the way it was/where killed. They have some great genes out there. That by far is probably the biggest bull in Washington state.

Corey - hope you don't mind, I "borrowed" those photos and posted 'em on another web forum as well. Wanted to show some folks that there's Big Elk in Washington as well - but I've never seen a bull like that in the wild. Awesome!!!

Great bull, thanks for posting the photos!

Seems to me I heard something about a record bull too. If I understood correctly it was taken on the side of Rattlesnake mountain which I believe the hills in the back ground our foothills to the west of the main mountain. THere are two area over there you can hunt, small areas though. Elk are there or not there.

Guy I do not mind you posting the pictures elsewhere. They were sent to me from a friend.

I recall an article a few years back in bugle mag. about the big bulls on the Hanford gov. property. If my memory serves me correctly the big bull Corey mentioned was killed by a bow hunter. The article called the bull by the name of "BRUTUS". That bull was a giant as well.

hubcap

You are right that was the nickname that they had given him and the Bugle was where I saw the article. Good recall better than mine. Now to go out and find one that good elsewhere!!!!!!!!!

Anyone happen to have that article laying around? I would like to read it.
