I am just getting started with reloading and really ejoying it so far.
I am shooting a Remington 710 30-06, Remington brass, CCI primers, Nosler BT and AccBond 150, IMR 4350 56.5 grains.

I did some shooting a few weeks ago and was putting 3 shots within inch and a half. The holes in the paper looked like someone punched a pencil through the paper, good so far.

Last week did some more shooting, groups between 1 to 2 inchs, but the holes look like something my 40s&w would do.

The holes are round but way too big for a 30-06.

Is it me, my backstop, or what?

Welcome to the forum buddy. Nice place to be, with a lot of knowledgeable individuals.

What exactly is your backstop made from? I can not see your bullets keyholing with your loads.

Speaking of keyholing......are the holes perfectly round or oblong?

Were you using the same paper each time? I notice that some paper ripps alot easier than others. The best is to use regular purchased targets, but I just use printer paper and have to spend a little more time "closing the holes" inorder to measure them accuratly.

You are on the right path though, There is no need to fire more than 3 shots in each group w/ a 30-06. Best to shoot 2 or 3- 3shot groups to make sure that the load is good and that you didn't just get lucky w/ one group.

IMR 4350 is a good powder for the 30-06 but it is always good to experiement with other powders if you have them on hand.

I am use the Shoot N See stickers. The stick them right onto the backstop which is plywood.

I am shooting 2 -3round groups, then pull down the targets and put up some new ones. Allowing the barrel to cool and for me to make some notes.

Since I am just getting started I am using just the 4350, but plan to start testing some other powders soon.

Thank you for the welcome.
The backstop is plywood, the targets are Shoot N See stickers (easy to read), the holes are round, they just are bigger holes than what I shoot a few prior.

Bear season opened here and I am eager to see how well the BT does on one.
