I had posted this a few weeks ago and received some derogatory comments directed at our daughter, it pissed me off and I quickly deleted it. I did post the story elsewhere and had a great discussion about the trip and was asked yesterday if I would post it again on Nosler---

One of our daughters lives in Belize at this time and through her work was invited and she has accepted an invitation to work and live with a small tribe in the amazon jungle for 60 days. Originally it was 30 days , but that has now changed and it could even stretch out to 90 days. While she is there she will be taught how to hunt small game with a blow gun and then be expected to provide dinner with it, after she learns to use it properly. Since it is "hunting", I was asked to put the story here.

Jerry and I took our daughters up the Amazon River when they were younger and she was the only one of the children who always wanted to go back. She will need to take several vaccinations and go through a vigorous medical exam. Not necessarily for her protection but for the protection of the tribe. But much like her father she is a determined young lady and wants to do this. I think it will be a great experience, even without the blow gun part, but thats pretty cool as well. As those here who have daughters will understand, Jerry is not as excited about her going as she is.

I recognise Jerry's concern. My daughter was caught in the middle of the revolution in Zaire (DRC now) and forced to flee under gunfire. This was the daughter that was always fearful of riding the bus alone as a teen. She was also in caught up in riots in the UK when Islamists were rioting. She has ridden through a couple of hurricanes whilst in the Caribbean. Dad's can't help but be concerned, but secretly, we are proud of their independent spirit. I'm certain it will be a great adventure for your daughter. I'm pulling for her and wishing her every success. That has to be fascinating to use the blow gun for hunting.

A,

That is a fascinating adventure for your daughter.

A, I can't remember the book, read it many years ago, but the fellow had chapters on hunting many different ways, one of which was with a blowgun. He took a variety of small game with it. Pretty interesting stuff. I've also seen a video with some south American natives using the blow gun to bring down monkeys from the trees.

Your daughter is in for quite an adventure!

I've got sons, but yes, I worry about them as they make their way through life as well.

Regards, Guy

A,
Thats an interesting way to hunt. But if thats the way to get the food, well one must learn fast. Hope we can see some pictures.

Russ,

Jerry has not lifted that ban yet. I use to post pictures a lot and after it turned negative for myself and one of our daughters. He will not allow me to do so.

However, if I did, it would have to be on an X rated thread. She sent us a video of the tribe and they were all nude and she has already told us that when in Rome,----- so she plans to be a tribe member and live in the same way as they do. This was one of the things that didnt exactly let Jerry sleep well for a night or two

Guy, if you remember, let me know as it seems I spend half my life on a plane and enjoy reading good books.

Jim thank you

Dr. Mike, you really do understand, wow, what an adventures life your daughter has lived, so far, with more to come.

I feel for you. When my two girls leave the house and move out on there own, I know that I will have a tough time. I couldn't even imagine having one of my girls half way across the world. I am confident that your daughters have been fully prepared for what ever adventure might come their way if they have half the strength of their mother.

I think that hunting with a blow gun would be interesting, fun and very challenging. Good luck to your daughter! The trip/work sounds like the adventure of a life time. Thank you for continuing to post!!

I know how Jerry feels. I would have some issues about that too.
I know she is an adult. BUt Apple is still Apple.

I would be sweating every day if my Anna decided to do that.

That would be an adventure, no doubt. I also think, any way one can learn another ways to put food on the table, is not only interesting but a good as well. Any new skill of such can only be a benefit in my mind. I look forward to hearing more of her experience, and wish her the best!
I don't have a daughter, but I can see it's only natural for daddy(s) to worry over his "little girl(s)". I do worry over my D-I-L and the grandaughters, on winter roads at present.

A, I would do this in a New York second. The nudity would not bother me, but considering where I live, the heat may take some getting used too. (-: Please tell your daughter I am envious of her and I wish her the best of luck. What an adventure!

Your daughter comes from good stock and I believe that she will have a unbelievable adventure.
I also understand the apprehension as I am the father of a beautiful young women and a grandfather to a beautiful granddaughter.
I believe God has a plan for each of us so I ask him to protect your daughter from all things and give her good health and judgement during this trip:)
I hope that no one will take offence to this.

Blessings,
Dan

I forgot to add earlier,,,,
Back in the days of my youth when you could get a blow gun, and other cool stuff off a cereal box mail order, my brother and I each had gotten one.
We use to make targets out four layers of cardboard, the take a bright colored piece of paper soaked in sugar water/ cooked corn starch mix, then stuck to the target. Then had competition's, shooting whatever landed on it. I haven't had one since, but would be fun to play with again.
As of now however, I been practicing with an Atlatl for the spring carp run. Primative weapons/hunting tools are plain cool all the way around.
