"Hunter Killed by Elk - Tillamook County
Oregon State Police - 08/30/20

On Saturday, August 29, 2020 Mark David (66) from Hillsboro was archery hunting on private property in the area of Trask Road E in Tillamook, OR. David wounded a 5X5 bull elk but was unable to locate it before dark.

David and the landowner attempted to find the wounded bull on the morning of Sunday, August 30, 2020 at approximately 9:15 A.M., David located the bull and attempted to kill it with his bow. The elk charged David and gored him in the neck with its antlers. The landowner attempted to help David but he sustained fatal injuries and died.

The elk was killed and the meat was donated to the Tillamook County Jail following the investigation.

OSP was assisted by the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office, Tillamook Fire and Rescue and the Tillamook County Medical Examiner."

Wow... And just before I start hunting elk here in central Washington. With my bow...

Saw this on FoxNews this morning. Looks as if this gentleman was surprised by an enraged elk. I was chased by a rutted up bull when I lived in Jasper. Let me tell you, 800 pounds of testosterone fueled elk will get your attention in a big hurry. Fortunately, I found a light standard to squeeze behind (no small task with my bulk) and he was satisfied that he had demonstrated dominance--his girls were safe.

Yes I read that as well a few days ago. A wounded wild animal the size of a Elk is nothing to take lightly.
I had a friend that was run over by a wounded 2 year old Bull Moose he did survive the encounter but had 20 some stitches to close up a head wound. He was shooting a 375 H & H at the time and when he recovered he bought a 416 Rigby .

Blessings,
Dan

Yeah. I love my bow, but I set it aside for safety when I’m messing with bear or critters bigger than a white tail...
