Brandon's Christmas Present

Jut keep an eye on the two epoxy bearing lugs which are on the side of the front action ring bedded onto the stock polymer surface. They are the only thing that center's that barreled action in the stock properly. Mine broke away and just fell off the sidewalls of the Japanese stock which I assume is the same configuration as yours?

Apparently these small epoxy lugs are just stuck on the inside polymer surface of the stock to center the front action ring. If they break, you will have to either rebed the action ring or replace the stock. I tried making new ones and did not have much success. Without them, the rifle will not settle down, center in the action and hold zero. I ended up buying a EuroMark stock on Ebay to solve the problem.

Had I not found one of these bedding epoxy lugs in the bottom of the stock channel, I never would have known that they were even there to begin with? Hope this helps?

I don't think that stock has them. I dremeled and drilled locking surfaces around the recoil lug in order to hold the action firm. If this doesn't hold up well, I'll order him a McM for the rifle and call it a day. I won't spend much more than I have on the plastic stock.

What about forend pressure. Should I keep it there? It is touching now, so I'm going to try it as is. May even add more if I think it'll assist.

Until we get some rounds through it, I'm just guessing. Might shoot lights out as is.

Keep it there for now.

With that #1 barrel contour you will probably need the pressure points Scotty. I did remove them from my B&C for my 300 but it is a #2 contour and stiffer. McM are nice but I can buy 2 B&Cs for the price of 1 McM and they work for me.
We need to get together and I'll bring the Bee along so you can check out the B&C,

Good info fellas.

TD, I'd do another B&C for the Weatherby in a heartbeat but I don't want the Weatherby shaped buttstock and would much rather have a traditional comb like a Model 70 Sporter. Sorta like what's on it now.

Scotty you can get these for a pretty darn fair price and you can have them checkered with the pattern you chose for not a lot more. They also will install a thicker more cushioned aftermarket recoil pad too. Take and pillar bed and glass bed one of these and it would be a stout, stable, tough son of a gun. And they are extremely attractive. I like the nutmeg laminate, but maybe one of the others would suite your style better. Just a thought. I like my wood!

Or a bit different style, but nice also.

My son has one of these on his 6mm Remington which has been checkered and bedded. Love that stock.

I don't think that Boyd's makes a stock for a MK5 David. I think my son would like one of those if they did. Wouldn't be nothing to add some pillar and a little bedding.

My .340 shot better with the pressure points. I tried it both ways and the pressure points gave me 1.5 inch groups at 200 yards with the 225 Partitions and 88.0 grs, IMR 7828 SSC, 215 MM primers.

It is hard for me as an engineer to imagine using the action locking system which I described to Scotty in a rifle as premium as the Mark V Alaskan. Just unbelievable?????

Boyds only makes stocks for the Vanguard and shot gun .
Uuuuh but Stocky's has stocks for the MK5.

I bought a Weatherby EuroMark for my .340. Got it on Ebay for $130 brand new with pressure point and everything. The stock fit great and I quit worrying about it. I was more than a little bummed about how poorly the Alaskan Tupperware stock system for Weatherby was put together to be honest?

Scotty that is a great looking rifle  I am sure that Brandon can live with a Leuy for a year or so.!!

Blessings,
Dan

I can understand that Buddy but for me the Monty Carlo style stock fits my face better. The classic stock on the Remington doesn't fit my face very well and I have very little cheek weld. But then My M77 fits great as does my M725 BDL so you figure. I will say this about the Weatherby designed stock and that is it helps manage the recoil better. (y)

talking about the pressure point . I think I recall reading that it puts 7 pound of pressure against the barrel . my point is , it is more than just touching .
