Hold on here who was the one that called a mate at 6:00am to come for coffee and then leaves after a short visit. We could have made a day trip to my boat which is only 35 minutes from Regina a 3 day non residence license is around $25.00. Doc I would even chipped for you .
Boat is almost always gassed up for a trip or two:).

Blessings,
Dan

Moi? Moi? Hey, we almost didn't connect for coffee! Come on over any time, Dan. We'll find time to wet a line for some grayling or trout.

Thank you my friend :) maybe Scotty & Rodger could tag along as well .
We could show them some real Canadian hospitality!!!

Blessings,
Dan

Righto, ol' chap. Can you imagine how wild they would be in the mountains around here? We could just travel from here over to visit Gerry in his AO.

It sounds like a plan to me 8) !
If we then ventured up to gerry's neck of the woods another short trip and we could go fishing just for the Halibut  !!!

Blessings,
Dan

Boy did we get off track, from grizzlies to fishing. I have probably more tied up in fishing gear than I do hunting and shooting equipment.
That would be a hoot for the four of us to get together and hang out. 8) I may not find my way home.

Yes, but once hunting season opens, fishing is forgotten in my household. I love to travel to Great Slave Lake for Walleye and Pike, but only if bear is down in the spring. I love fishing the streams for Rainbow and grayling, but once mid-August comes, fishing is forgotten. Gerry is on some prime salmon streams, as well.

The grizzlies love to visit the salmon spawning streams in late summer through to the end of October or so, makes fishing interesting :)

Anyone from this site would be welcome to visit here we have extra rooms and lots of food. July- October is great timing for salmon fishing, we could also put someone like Scotty to good use for a goat hunt, I'm betting he can pack a good load

Bring pepper spray; the bears have developed a taste for pepper steak.

When you watch one glaring at you from 70 yards away as he stands over a moose carcase, then, deliberately lift that carcass with his mouth and walk backwards toward the tree line, watching you all the while, you will know you have witnessed one of the truly great animals of God's creation. Then, when bluff charged by a big boar claiming a gut pile, you will have been privileged to witness a power that is raw and untamed in the extreme. They are beautiful and awe inspiring creatures, that's for certain. I am blessed beyond all expectation to live in country where these great animals live.
Mike, I believe you truly are,!! I would love to see that from a little farther away.

Rodger, it would be a great place to get lost for about a decade :). There are not many places more beautiful & pristine than were Mike hangs his hat.
If I would have visited 25 years earlier I would be still living there  almost every North American big game animal is within a 2 hour drive of his home.
Also some of the best fresh water fishing a person could ask for!!

We could make it happen my friend

Blessings,
Dan

Glad to hear that the grizzley beards are doing well.
They are one animal that is on my bucket list.

The grizzlies here are beautiful, impressive and sometimes a competitor when they want to fish in the same area where were are fishing. We always carry the 45/70 with us when fishing, but have never had to use it. But it can be a little unnerving sometimes when they want you out of their fishing hole.

Last fall we were in Kaktovik for a few days and the white bear is equally impressive and down right beautiful. They are another one of God's creatures that are magnificent hunters and enjoyable to watch in their natural enviroment

I'm a little concerned, Jim. The only grizzly beard I've seen looks back at me from the mirror each morning. I'd hate to see that one shot!

Yup me too, the steaks on some old grizzles would need a lot of marinate before they are tender enough for the table .

I have never seen a grizzle in the wild it would be something that stay with me for ever :).

Next time you're out, let's take a trip into the mountains, Dan. I'll see what I can do.

Mike that is a deal, I will bring the camera and maybe get a photo or two .

I know I'm a lucky son of a gun and lived a charmed life. Reading some of the comments helps me appreciate the life I get to lead. For those of you who have never seen a grizzly try to get it done. Their strength and speed are unbelievable to witness and can leave you flabbergasted. It is how people react to seeing the bears I enjoy the most. Seeing them from the boat or the floatplanes is fun and gets people pretty excited, but that's nothing compared to seeing them while wading. There is always reason for concern when you are close to a grizzly but it is what occurs after the bear fishes through I enjoy the most. The look of absolute joy on someone's face is fun to see, it's neat to get to share. Last summer I had a truly remarkable day, the man I was guiding caught all five species of salmon on his fly rod. A rare occurrence given it was not a pink salmon year in that part of Alaska, so only a few genetic misfits were in the stream. And we saw bears, several of them. All he talked about back at the lodge was the bears.
I know Wisconsin teacher is heading up to Denali this summer so he should hopefully see some, I hope someone takes our Canadian friends up on their offer as well.
Get er done, go see a grizzly you won't be sorry.

truck driver, "I may not find my way home" may have more than just a little truth in it!

That would all depend on whether or not you get to see a grizzly up really close and personal while wetting lines in clear waters for finned delights. Most of the places that Mike likes to fish are high percentage areas for grizzly sightings! Not to mention their draw to coastal waters for the salmon runs when out on the coast.

But you truly are more apt to find what all of these other transplanted Americans have found...a place that is a little closer to "heaven on earth"!

Eh?

I'm practicing my Canadian. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to enter Canada again.
