Browning BLR 358 Win

PG stocks are weaker? First I've ever heard that. Call me skeptical. I have a straight grip in 358Win and a pistol grip in 300WSM. For the 358 I have settled on 225gr Sierras and Partitions. N135 and TAC are the best powders I have found. Velocity right at 2450fps gave me the best accuracy. Consistently puts the first two touching and the third less than an inch out w/ both bullets. I don't see any real advantage to using other weight bullets in the 358.

As CC mentioned, I run one load in mine, either 225 SGK's or 225 PT's with 52 grains of W748, WW brass, CCI BR2, and standard COAL. It shoots just about like his rifle and runs about the same speed at 2450 or so. I haven't found much of anything that rifle is good for, if your shooting under 300 yards or so. It is VERY handy and is a fun rifle. It always get some playtime in the Fall. I tend to let new hunters use it cause it points really easily and will aerate deer, so I know there will be blood on the ground, plus, that 225 PT is just awesome on deer. I had one go through a small Va Whitetail last fall. Broke the hips dead center and I don't think I lost enough meat to fill a small sandwiche bag.

Thanks for all the info - the rifle i bought is supposed to have a VERY good trigger compared to most - we will see !

If your rifle has a good trigger, you will be FAR ahead of me in trying to shoot good groups. I would have more BLR's if the triggers could be dressed up some. Mine is very heavy with creep. Makes it hard to shoot little groups. It does make a great hunting rifle though.

I've had two, and each was a shooter. I was shooting 200 grain TSX with good effect.

Mike can you tell me what your OAL was loaded too to fit and work through the BLR :?:  Thks RJ

I always loaded my BLR to the magazine to ensure a proper feed (2.780 inches).

I would still check distance to the lands with your bullets of choice, if nothing else than a data point. Browning chambers are not generally sloppy.

Yes - i am a VERY Compentant reloader - i alwasy check everything - i was just wondering there oal as i have not yet received the rifle and i was checking bullet lenghts to see what seating depth they would need to be - so as too how far ( the bullets ) invade the powder space .

I get my Browning BLR 358 Win tomorrow ! I am so excited ! Won't be able to sleep tonite ! RJ

I tried the Nosler 225 Accubonds in the mag today - seated so they will function properly out of the mag - 2.780 oal they are about .165 thou down into the case behind the shoulder of the brass - so QUITE deep into the case ! 225 gr Partitions would not take up as much case capacity . RJ

The 225 gr Partition would take up less space RJ. I wouldn't worry about losing a bit of powder space but in case you hate it maybe we can work out a trade :)

I might not be able to sleep tonite gerry  maybe i should have stayed my beloved Partitions and this would not be happening ! RJ

Hey Fotis - would you be so kind as to print me off complete loading data for the 358 WIN ! Thanks i appreciate that ! RJ

Well I just picked one up too. Got some 200 gr Hornadies sitting around.

Anyone played with TAC yet? Suppose to be the best!

I used TAC (53 grains) with 200 grain Sierras. The combination launched the bullet at 2708 fps and gave me 0.37 inch accuracy. With 225 grain Sierras, and using 45 grains of TAC, I got 2300 fps velocity and 0.75 inch groups. These were in my Hawkeye. I didn't try these combinations in my BLR, but there is no reason they wouldn't have worked.

I run W748 with 225's in my rifle. Gets 2450 and MOA sorta accuracy when things goes correctly.
