I’ve been working-up some loads for an upcoming moose hunt and out of curiosity I decided to shoot a few rounds into a pile of wet newspapers (to take a look at bullet shape and mass loss after firing). I’m using a 160 gr. Nosler PT out of my 7mm Rem Mag. The mass loss for 10 rounds averaged to 33% with a range of 29-35%. Is this acceptable? :?

In regard to weight retention, those bullets are performing exactly as intended. I have recovered very few Nosler Partitions from game, but those that I did find all retained around 65% of their original weight. Like you, I tried them in wet newspaper and bullet after bullet was right in their with 65 to 70% weight retention.

I have never recovered a Partittion bullet from a game animal, only wet phone books and gallon water jugs.
Below are some 225 gr PT's shot from my 338 RUM that were recovered in water.
