A person would think that after 47 years of reloading that I would at least have a clue what to do but I don't
My 257 Wby. decided it doesn't like the loads and resizing I did and I'm having to pull the bullets. My kinetic puller is stripped out ' both of them' because thae 110 A/B is so light it won't slip so the whole cartrige pops thrue shearing the aluminum retainers. What are my options? The brass is expensive and the bullets hard to find.
Help :?

+1 on the collet puller, I have a Forester.

Better yet send the ammo to me and I will pull the bullets and return the bullets and powder to you.

I use an RCBS collet puller.

If you're ordering a collet style puller, take a look at the Hornady version. It's a great design, with a cam lock setup that makes things a little faster than the standard screw down type.

Greg,

I use the Hornady collet puller. It works very well indeed. I also have several kinetic pullers, but the collet puller is where I usually turn.

easy fix,
throw the three jawed chuck away, put a round in a shellholder, set it over the puller, screw the cap on, it won't slip. Its all I ever use.

When I started reloading, I used the Kinetic puller. It's fine for pistol or revolver rounds but lousy on rifles. They're hard on lead tip bullet. I switched to collet type and didn't look back.

RR, Thats a good idea..

Greg, I have used one for yrs without issue on everything from .17's to 35's in the rifle cases.

My only squawk with the kinetic puller is the case mouth will get dinged sometimes from the bullet bouncing around in the hammer head. Never deformed a bullet tho.

Always meant to buy a collet style puller, but my kinetic has always worked well..

they make different size aluminum inserts for kinetic pullers. are you sure you have the right one. Also if you put a old foam ear plug in the bottom of the puller the bullets don"t get deformed and save some money.

Thanks

Your suggestion worked perfect. I also put a rubber dot in the kinetic puller and none of the bullets were deformed.
Thanks everyone.

That explains why some experience bullet deformation.... Apparently all dont have a foam pad piece in the nose. My RCBS one came with it...

The old RCBS ones did not have the foam. We use to use a cotton ball. Foam is better. The collet style is even better, especially when you have a larger number to pull.
