DR Mike is correct, the joke was directed at Tom ( PA ) and Scotty ( VA ) . Not for a minute did I assume anyone would think I was serious about hunting deer with a horse and a lariat I apologize, no offense was intended

I was not very impressed with the .458 Rhino in either 485 or 425 grain weight.

Check out how they performed compared to North Fork and original Trophy Bonded in my test of premium .458 caliber bullets in the Bullet Test section of this forum.

Whether at standard or enhanced velocity, low or high SD, North Fork is emperically the best by far bonded solid base bullet available.

She also mentioned that over the years that Rhino has continued to improve their product and that their product of today is better than their product of yesteryear. Things change, sometimes for the better. I understand the woodleigh bullet was not tapered in years past but is today and apparently works even better now.

Regardless, it will be fun playing with a new bullet. We may not like them, but thanks to A we will have first hand knowledge of what they can or can not do and how they shoot.

Scotty, my uncle is just like you, he can not wait to get his hands on them. Why do you think I got the two calibers I got ----duh LOL

I would say the Woodleigh SoftPoints are fine for lightskin animals. Keep the velocity specs suggested by the maker. I will be loading 300grain softpoints here the next week for my .333Jeffery. Max velocity will be about 2280 ft/sec.

In an opcomming Buffalohunt next year my .378Wea will use GS Custom bullets. They are "battleproven" for the toughest.

GS has never really received the credit it deserves for popularizing the FN solid.

Just to upset DR Mike and Cheyenne, we also instructed our daughter to have some GS Customs bullets shipped to Scotty, Tom, Charles and Sean, so they will have two different types of bullets ( Rhino and GSC ) to play with and decide whether they like them or not. April can buy her own GSC when she runs out of what she already has.

They were not aware that the GSC bullets were headed their way, but thought we better now alert them so that Dr Mike and/or Cheyenne dont try to intercept the ups delivery.

The 300grain FN solid is a real killer from a .378Weatherby Magnum. A friend of mine had up and go to 930 m/sec(3050 ft/sec) and no sign of too much presssure. Penetrated over 80cm hardwood(beechwood) and still didn´t stop.
For Buffalo I might use 260grain HV but the 300grain FN Solid could be good for headshot.

The above mentioned load tested was 114 grain Norma MRP. Rifle used was a Weatherby MK V.

Got a report recently from a friend in Africa. Woodleigh .375" 350 gr soft points opening real fast and failing to penetrate adequately were partly to blame for quite a rodeo with a Cape Buff...

I wasn't there, didn't see it, don't know the specifics... Thought it was worth mentioning. Shot placement being the other factor according to my friend.
