300RUM
10mm Glock 20SF

And i want to get a Rock River Arms Upper in .458 SOCOM

Man where is that 300 Savage. You haven't shown me that! Scotty

Man I can't believe you would hold out on me! That has got to come out next time! Scotty

That is one of the few rifles i have never taken any game with or loaded for. I have the dies but just never have really messed with it.

Don't blink the next time I'm in Wilson! That is a dream rifle for me. Love that cartridge and rifle! Scotty

I have a 300 Savage madel 99 that my grandpa bought new in the 1950's I think. He killed a bunch of deer and elk with it. My dad killed his first deer with it and I killed my first deer with it. In about 7 years my son will hopefully continue the tradition. It hasn't seen the outside of the safe in a long time, but it's time to shine again is coming! Can't wait!
Oh yea... 280 AI made the list too.

JD buddy, you and me think alike. My first bolt guns are both underdog. I had the 280 Remington first followed by a 6MM Remington. Then it progress to 222 Remington Magnum, 35 Remington before venturing into an Ackleyrized version of the 223 and the 338 Lapua.

Man Woodycreek that caliber was my first big game rifle, and man you're missing out. On paper the old 300 Savage gets scoffed at but I have shot badgers, rabbits, coyotes, five deer and two elk with mine and it kills them stone dead even with a 150 grain Plain-Jane @ a modest 2600fps in a 24" tube. And it keeps 5 shots in 1.5" at 100 yards on an average day, sometimes better sometimes worse. I have an old Lyman All-American 4x on top right now, though someday I may replace it with a Weaver of the same vintage just because the crosshairs not being excatly center psychs me out.

Mine too is a Savage 99, it belonged to my grandfather. He bought it in 1941 @ the general store in my home town for 80 dollars brand new. I would like to know the head count of game that rifle alone has taken. Its all of his I have and its truly a treasure.

The 99 not a family rifle but belong to a friend that was in my hunting club. Tony was a super cool guy that hunted all over the place but passed away to soon in life. The rifle has a history of elk and bear taken with it. After Tony passed my dad purchased a few of his rifles and shotguns with the 99 being one of them. I did carry it one deer season as a woods rifle but never could put a deer in front of me when I had it. I have dies and brass but just never sat down and loaded for it. I will sometime soon!

The Savage 99 300 Savage is a classic here in Northern MI too. There were 2 of them in our camp and they both killed a lot of deer with the 180 gr SPCL factory load.
If I ever run across a good one, I will buy it just because.

I like this game, but I'm going to throw in the rifles because somtimes the chambering isn't rare!

Stevens 200 in 6x47 Rem
Rem 788 in .30-30 Win
M93 Mauser sporter in .300 Savage
1896 Springfield Krag sporter in .30-40 of course.
1917 Remington sporter in .300 H&H
VZ-24 Mauser sporter in 8mm-06
03-A3 Remington sporter in .338-06
1903 Springfield in .35 Whelen
Savage 99 in .358 Win
T/C Encore in .375 JDJ

I had a Encore pistol once in .280 GNR but that thing was a beast and had to go. My short lists of want to try rifles are .375-06, .400 Whelen, and .20 Practical. Of course I know where there is a nice .17 Squirrel, but I'm not sure I want to spend the money on it.

Same here Jim. Just love those 300 Savages. I believe they are the true epitome of an Adirondack hunting rifle. They were the only 300's of their day. My grandfather used an M99 300 Savage for a long time with Winchester 180gr Silvertips and man, you couldn't tell him there was a better rifle/cartridge out there. Scotty

Holy smokes Brian! We have to get that rifle out! Man, I haven't seen many of them that won't shoot pretty well. Plus, a 125gr BT or 150gr PT would be pretty sweet for a carrying rifle or treestand rifle when the dogs are running. Man! I can't believe you held that 300 out on me! Here I thought we were friends! Scotty

I miss my 280 Remington and need to get another one. 280 Remington
Sure wish Winchester would chamber their Extreme Weather SS in it!

I would bet the 280 isn't too far outta Winchesters mind. The 25-06 was out this year I would think the 280 is right behind. Scotty

I'd surely hate to see that! It would mean selling the Winchester chambered in 280 that now graces my safe just so I could buy one of the new ones!

Most of what I now have would be considered a bit out of the "normal" realm of cartridges

260 Rem
264 Win mag
303 British (pretty common in Canada though)
35 Whelen (2 of them)
375 Ruger
Will consider maybe a 325 WSM in the future or something similar.

In the past I have owned a 22 Hornet, 6.5x55, 307 Win and 45-70.
