Has anyone ever done a study to determine what portion of a case "stretches" most when firing?
(For example is it that neck, shoulder body or the base?)

I would assume that the case would stretch in the area where the metal is the thinnest but that may NOT necessarily be true.

Anyone have any info on that?

Just curious.

On my magnum rifles the case usually fails just forward of the belt. This can be checked by simply running a stiff wire slightly bent at the tip (a long L shaped wire) and feeling for a crack or rough spot on the inside of the case. On my non magnum cases the neck splits most often. Most of my magnum cases seem to start to wear out after about 10 loadings or so. A very close inspection of a clean case under a good light works for most exterior cracks. Also the primer pocket will loosen up and when they are very "easy" to seat a primer into they need to go.
