270 WSM

I just can't get over it, I can't help it, I want a good lightweight 270 WSM. I know I have the 280 AI, and I love that gun, but I need two deer guns. My wife really doesn't care or shoot that much, so I figure it may as well be a gun that I will love. It does everything and then some that any factory 6.5 can do in normal hunting ranges. Plus I don't own a .277 or a .308 of anykind, and I would like to remain a US citizen, so I had to put one of those two in my safe.

I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.

Great choice Jake. I am waiting here in real anticipation of you getting that rifle. Pretty hard to find a better built rifle straight from the factory. Just has alot going for it right outta the gates. Scotty

Great choice. The 270 is a super caliber and the WSM just adds a bit more to it. I haven't owned any of the new Winchesters but I sure have read a lot of good about them. I am anxious to hear how it performs and how you like it.

Jake,

Very cool. The 270 WSM (aka 6.8mm WSM) is an impressive round.

Jake -
Great Choice !

There are several calibers out there I haven't been a fan of "until I tried one" The .270 was one of them, but I was on the hunt for one just to fill the "numerical" gap between my .260 & .280. I found another one Sportsmans I believe had mismarked - Vanguard SUB-MOA in .270WSM.

Currently sits in my safe without a scope, but it shoots under an inch all day long.

Can't wait to see your results.

I tried and tried and tried to steer him into the 6.5 club but hes still stuck on that dang 270 WSM lol.

I think a 6.5-06 or 264 WM both w/26" bbls would be great for what your looking for. Stick a 130g AB in them at 3200-3300fps and you'd have a deer/antelope/elk/black bear combo out there a ways past normal hunting ranges. Plus ya got all the great 6.5 target bullets to choose from to make a great LR practice/hunting rig.

Nothing wrong with the 270 WSM though in terms of ballistics, I just dont like them short fat things, haven't fed great IME.

270 WSM is a fine choice!

Love that 270WSM... I think I have its bigger brother on the way too. Just love those WSM's. Scotty

You could do a whole lot worse than a 270 WSM. It'll do what you need to have done.

I would of bought this if I had my other guns sold! That would have made me very happy

That rifle gave me a little fit too Jake and I already have the WSM. The price on that Weatherby is excellent and I know I could really make some 140-150's sing in it also. I think you will be in great shape with your WSM if you can acquire it though. There are tons of great loads to work with. Plus, no belt to worry about. Not that it is a big deal, but it is one less detail to worry about. Scotty

Just got the price back form my FFL, For that kind of money a guy has to take a real hard look at building one. A guy can have a custom rifle that you know will shoot great (like the 280 AI), and have everything you want in it for just a little bit more $.

Yeah, they are pricey, but they already come with a 210.00 B&C on them, good trigger system and such. I kinda thought the same, till I started looking at what actually comes with the rifle. Scotty
