Just ordered a chronograph today.
After much research I went with a Magneto Speed Sporter. The Labradar is too expensive for my taste and after borrowing a traditional chronograph I knew I didn't want to mess with having to set up the sunscreens and run the risk of shooting the chrony.
It will be interesting to see how fast my accurate loads are trucking.
Anybody here use one?

Haven't used one...but when I shoot the chrono I have (it will happen), I'm gonna get one...maybe not the Sporter, but a Magneto Speed.

I need some of the options the other versions offer.

Hmmm, cool. I just keep getting the cheap chrono's ($100 range). I've shot two of them so far, and I'm on my 3rd.

So I'm $300 into it. sure would be nice to have one that you wouldn't/couldn't shoot.

I have an old V1. I found that it changes POI and affects accuracy especially with lighter barrels, so I don't use it for load work up. After I have the load dialed in I use it to measure the speed of the load. It is very simple to use, but if I am having trouble with load development I miss my old optical a bit.

You will not regret the magneto. Best chrono I've used to date. I'd put 1000X more faith in it than an Oheler, from an engineering standpoint its brilliant. Just don't do load develop, met with it on your rifle.

The magneto is ok unless you want to chrono handguns.

I have the v2, been very happy with it. Have not noticed that it effects accuracy, my good loads shoot just as well with it on, it can change poi on some rifles. Suggest figuring out which shims to use for particular barrels before you get to the range, will save you some time and fooling around

I have the Sporter model. It is possible to shoot the chronograph, called the bayonet, since it is secured near the muzzle with a nylon strap that can lose some tension through recoil. If the strap is loose, the bayonet can be whipped up by the recoil movement.. That is what happened when I didn't check the strap tension. Luckily, the bullet scrapped the left front edge of the bayonet but didn't hurt anything.

If you can look through the bore and not see a black nub in the bore then the bayonet is in the right place and the bullet will pass correctly over the sensors.

For the extra money, I don't think the full V3 Magneto Speed is worth it. All I want is the velocity. I can determine the average. I don't need the rest of the stuff. The Sporter is worth the money.

I read you can chrono revolvers with one.
I've already got my bottomfeeder loads worked out. :)

I have a Magnetospeed Sporter and the only bad thing I can say is the strap could be redesigned to make it easier to adjust and keep tight but I have a much better handle on that now.

It gives readings 100% of the time and they are accurate and repeatable. I can shoot a load one week and the next week it will show the same speed at the same temps.

When I go up in powder charge by a half grain it shows the slight increase in speed perfectly without any shots that are way out of range or questionable.

The menu is super easy to scroll through and it will give you high, avg and ES. What more could you want?
It does affect point of impact a great deal and I only use it to check speeds then remove it.
At $189.00 shipped to your door it's a no brainer and by far the best Chrono I've ever used or seen in action.

I'm starting to really want one of them. They just seem too darned good for my use.

I was at rifle range Fri and another member had Magnetospeed V3. After he was finishing shooting I decide ask couple question about it. I got almost full hr on how to set it up etc and that strap thumbnut kept everything tight against the barrel.

I looked at their site and see you can get that thumbnut for V1 and V2 and not sure if need the heavier strap.

I may get one next year.

I'll take it to the range Tuesday. :)

Let us know how it works Vince, one day I'll replace the Chrony with one too.

OK, used the little chronograph today.
I'll talk more about it later today but in the meantime let me just say, I'm impressed. :)
I got my dollar's worth.
