Got to play with the Romanian PSL at extended ranges this weekend. The rifle is styled after the Soviet Dragunov, built on a beefed up AK action with a 26" barrel in caliber 7.62X54R.

Due to the lack of snow, we were able to place old cinder blocks on a frozen lake at ranges from 300-900 yards with a high sand bank for a backstop. Bullet splash off the ice made spotting eazy. Fired Czech military ammo that groups about 1.5 moa in this rifle with ballistics matching the dope in the 4x PSO-1 scope. My buddy used the ranging feature on the scope (detached from the rifle) to range each target as I set them.

Found it remarkably easy to engage the targets to 500 yards from prone. Beyond 500 the swirling and variable wind made hits a bit more difficult, often requiring one spotter to judge the wind. Second shot was usually on target. Could have used more magnification on the optics, but was able to achieve minute-of-man accuracy easily on 4x and could spot my own hits at 500+. Dope dials on the scope were right on the money. This rifle would make a very deadly tool in the hands of a skilled operator. Had a great, fun day playing sniper.

Shooting on a frozen lake? Sound cool! (sorry) It's always fun and educational to try new stuff.

I have shot a Dragunov a few different times. Very interesting and cool rifle with the original scope. It would shoot MOA out to 300 yards which surprised me.

Don't have miles of desert or prairie to shoot long on so I takes what I can get. Nothing would make it over that 100' sand bank regardless of ricochet angle. Wouldn't shoot over ice without a good backstop.

Very cool. Pretty fun to stretch the legs on those old military rifles once in awhile.
