Just some findings on 358 cal bullets. This is just bullets I have dug from the sand back stop which is very abrasive and they stop abraptly, Most traveled just 3-4 inches so this is not on game performance just how they compared to each other in sand. All were fifty yard shots.

Designed for the 35rem the 200gr CoreLokt RN at 2180, fps all expanded to the cannalur some past and all retained their lead cores (35rem).

The softest is the 200gr SilverTip at 2480 fps, all expanded past the cannalur and lost their lead cores (358win).

Next is the 200gr Interlock Spire Point at 2488 fps, all expanded to or past the cannalur and retained their lead cores (358win).

The 200gr Pointer CoreLokt at 2670 fps, all expanded to the cannalur some past it but all retained their cores (whelen).

The 225gr Partition at 2420 fps. Only found two out of 30 bullets the rest went aleast eight inches or more. I was not going to dig that deep. Expanded to the Partition with some lead left and about .670 in dia.(358win).

All bullets would have retained more weight if not shot into sand so I thought weight was not as relivent here.

tjen,

Good report, thanks for sharing your test results.
Terminal ballistic testing is always good information to share with everyone here.
I did some testing with my 35 Whelen, shooting 225 gr PT, BT and 250 gr PT bullets into gallon milk jugs filled with water at 100 yds some time ago.
Here are the recovered bullets-

I will repost this at a later date, I have a recovered 225 gr AB to add.

Some time I'll have to a real test with jugs of water for some of my pet loads. I have thought about filling the first jug with saw dust and water and let it soak over night. Tipickly how many jugs of water does the whelen penitrate?

tjen,

If I remember correctly, about 6-7 gallon jugs of water.
I have also used phone books soaked in water. They are heavy and messy but you can see the shock wave. The wet paper expands but doesn't spring back like meat.
I have used the 225 gr PT to kill many WT deer and a 250 lb Blk Bear.
Always got an exit wound from any angle about the size of a quarter.
