Contender shooters?

Yup. I have a T/C Contender with Georgia Jim furniture, a 14" Hunter barrel in 7x30 Waters and a 14" SSK Shilen barrel in 6.5 JDJ.

Not a contender but I just picked up an Encore in 243. 15" barrel. I put a Bushnell Elite 2-6 on it.

I have a Contender with several barrels and looking to have one made up in 300 savage. Thinking it would be better than a 30-30 AI.

The 300 Savage would be very cool.
Will it work in a Contender? What is the SAAMI pressure spec for the 300 Savage?

Jim I was looking on MGM's web page and they list it for the Contender. I think but not sure that the SAAMI psi is around 46Kpsi. The 300 Savage is supposed to be the same as the 30-30 AI with less pressure to achieve the same results in the Contender from what I've read. A 15" barrel 1-12 twist would handle up to 200gr. bullets. From what I have read over on Marlin the 30-30 AI builds pressure fast and is undetected until you have a problem( case separation) and then it's too late.

I hope to own a contender one day. Local shop has one in 223 right now. Pretty clean, asking $500

I have one in 35 Remington, with barrels in 22 Jet, 22 Hornet, 30-30 and something else I forget.

I also picked up an Encore in 6.5x55 with a 15" barrel, well, just because.

I'm constrained to the 'gentler' calibers but your Swedish 6.5 is a classic!
I do enjoy shootin' the JDJ's, tho.

There has always been at least one Thompson in the gunsafe.

I have or have had 22 hornet, 223, 7 tcu, 30-30, 35 rem, 44 and my favorite 45/410

I have a 375 Winchester barrel. The lighting 200 gr Sierra Game King is a hammer on deer.

JD338,
I like the idea of the 300 Savage.
I have a 250 Savage that I'm careful to load for. (only to 39,000 psi)
It shoots like nothing else I own.
Love them quarterbores
Thanks,
Jimmy

Jimmy,

I like that 250-3000 Contender.
A 300 Savage in the Contender loaded up with a 125 gr BT would be a killing machine on WT deer.

I believe the 25 functions at lower pressure than the 300
300 Savage = 46,000 psi
250 Savage = 45,000 psi
30-30 Win = 42,000 psi
30-30 AI = ?
I considered Ackley but figured I would enjoy little gain or relief from it's use.
For my 30's, the 308 Bellm is king.
Thanks

Oh in a 250 Savage... I'd likely shoot the mirror off the "rolling ground blind" :) CL

Sadly I have owned two over the years and sold both. The first was a .44 Rem Mag with 10” barrel. It came with a spare barrel in .223 Rem.

The second was a Super 14 with Hogue grips in .30-30 with a spare 10” barrel in .357 Magnum.

Of those the .30-30 was by far my favorite! But I sold them and that’s that.

Once you get your hands on a contender NEVER let go of the frame.
The barrels can be negotiated with always.
But the frame is the 'motor' for that little 'machine'.
