I'm messing around with converting a 22 ARC AR15 to a bolt action. Already have the bolt action upper and machined a sleeve to block off the gas port on the barrel. My question is, is it now safe to use bolt gun load data. From what I read on Sierra, the reduced pressure for gas guns is to prevent damage to the rifle when the bolt slams back at the higher pressures. I would assume, being all quality components, that pressure standards for barrels are the same for either, but I could be wrong. I'm doing this because I built the thing with a 24" barrel and fixed stock, and it's just not practical as a semi-auto and I really don't see me doing anything but bench work with it.

Whoa, there is a way to convert an AR to a bolt gun? I have heard about numerous modifications to ARs, but I have never heard of that before.

it's plenty safe! you can always use a gas block and turn it upside down to block the gas port off if there's enough room.

You’ll be fine. The pressure limits are to save the BCG as pressure cycles it. You can use a good adjustable gas block and get the same results by closing the gas port completely. Thereby stopping the bolt from cycling, it stays locked forward until you manually cycle it. Your bolt loads will be safe enough.
