Was out scouting for mule deer today and found some. Also ran across a silly coyote who decided to stop and look at me from 154 yards away... The coyote learned one final lesson - that a .25-06 is one wicked coyote & deer rifle!

Young bucks. Not legal. I hope they don't get shot by some idiot this season.

Good job Guy!

Pretty cool indeed..Nice pick of the young deer...Also a bigtime 25-06 fan myself.Great cartridge.

Guy, his coat looks nice and fuzzy. Bet the tail would look cool on an antenna.

great dog & nice young mulies. keep shooting those darn yotes. I would have to agree, there are more this year.

I am seriosly jealous. A nice walk with the rifle in beautiful country, and a moving target to boot!! Dosent get much better than that!!! Nice Guy!! Good luck with your hunting this fall. CL

What is your load in the 25-06, TSX? How did it expand on your coyote?

"What is your load in the 25-06, TSX? How did it expand on your coyote? "

I've used the 100 gr Barnes TSX at 3340 fps on a couple of mule deer bucks with excellent results. As in one-shot drop 'em dead right there results.

This load is the 115 grain Berger VLD over 60.5 grains of Retumbo. It generally clocks around 3200 fps from the 24" Remington barrel.

Results on the coyote? You don't want to see the other side - it doesn't really exist anymore... NOT a pelt saving load...

Way to go on the coyote!!

I was thinking of using the 115g VLD this year on coyotes but was worried they might pencil through...After shooting some milk jugs filled with water at 100 and 400 yards, I dont think they'll be penciling through at all. They vaporized those jugs!!

I'm playing with 2 loads right now that shoot the 115g VLD into 1/2 MOA at 400 yards. One uses 50g RL-22 for 3000fps, the other uses 58.5g Retumbo for 3250fps. I'll probly end up using the Retumbo since it gives 250fps more MV.

Yeah, the VLD is a good bullet - I don't know that it will do anything in the field that can't be done with a 115 Nosler or a 117 Hornady or Sierra, but it is an interesting bullet. I'm going to try it on mule deer this year - mostly out of curiosity.

Well good luck on the muley's Guy!!!

I for one would be very interested to hear the field report on the 115 VLD.

My previous experiences with VLD's on deer out of the 7mm RM using both 168's and 180's weren't quite what I expected. 168's blew up at 600+ yards on shoulder, and the 180's penciled through at 100 yards on the shoulder. Back to 140g NBT's...

My buck season opened this past weekend. I went out for 3 days and didn't see much of anything for shooter bucks. 2 spikes, and 2 forked horns. The spikes were standing 20 yards off the road, and the forked horns were doing mach 10 after coming out of the brush. Have the 338 EDGE ready with some 300g SMK"s if I can spot a decent buck at a little longer distance. Back at it this weekend. Hopefully I'll have a buck and a story to share with all.
