What do you all do with the remains of the coyotes after they're skinned (if you skin them)? I've never hunted them and I know most people don't believe in not eating what you shoot.

The ravens, bears and other coyotes all have to eat. Seriously, the remains of predators will serve as food for other predators. I remove the carcase to an out-of-the-way location, knowing it will be found shortly enough. If I'll be looking for more fur, I will mark the location,

That sounds like a plan to me Doc! I'll be honest I wouldn't be too hot about eating coyote, even if it was the right thing to do.

Or raven, or wolf, or weasel. As my trusty native guide says, "Nothing gets wasted in the bush!"

I do not save pelts. I have a "special" spot for coyotes and I let them give back to the ecosystem.

I know they are not coyotes, but Bobcats made some excellent jerkey. My old man trapped a bunch of bobcats this past Winter and was feeling guilty not doing anything with the meat. Well, when they are cut up into little strips, marinated and smoked, you would have a hard time knowing it wasn't venison.

Mt Lion has some excellent loin meat as well. Loved eating it, tasted and looked alot like lean pork. Scotty

Caterwaul can be excellent fare if not overcooked. I've had it on several occasions. However, coyote needs to be fed to the critters in the field.

Most of the bobcats around here are kinda scrawny. I think the effort to cut off strips of meat for jerky would be a tad extreme. But really, eating cat. That's taking the "you shoot it, you eat it" thing a bit tooooo far. I've never been that hungry in my life. Scotty, the way you describe making cat jerky is kinda like that for cooking gar and carp. You put the fish on a shingle, properly spice and season it, smoke it til done, throw the fish away and eat the shingle.

Bruce I promise if we do the jerkey again next year I will send you some. It was pretty good but our cats in the North are a little meatier I imagine.

I did get a good laugh out of your fish cooking though. That was great! Scotty

Im just glad I have a friend who likes Squirrel or I'd have to stop hunting tree rats too. Coyotes....Ive been trying to call one in and connect for 30 years. Pretty sad for a kid from South Dakota huh? But true. Taking a coyote has now moved to my "bucket list". If I ever do connect on one he wil be a rug unless hes too mangy....then I'll boil his skull. The rest of him is for the crows. Maybe they will stay out of the meadow lark and blue bird nests. Of course, ANY crow "doing damage or about to do damage" is a target. I dont care if they taste like Cheekin' I anit pickin them up.
