I am taking my time looking for the short action mag rifle for my project.

Most that I like are hard to come by. Seems to be the case a lot, lol.

Ive had a couple CZ rifles and had zero issues with them. Some of the attributes of such I really like but the single short mag action rifle Ive found in searches was the Model 3, reportedly on a Montana Rifle Co. action.

Anyone have or have had access to one of these rifles in recent years enough to give an objective opinion?

Pretty tough for me to get away from my 700 fetish but......there are a few I would like to check on. This one is one of the main ones. It looks much like a M70 Winny to me but only have photos to go by.

Not yet in buying mode so if one is for sale in your neck of the woods, I appreciate the thought but, not yet.

Any info is greatly appreciated. I'm totally ignorant of the MRC action other than what I can read online.

God Bless

Steve, the MRC action is pretty much first rate. I've messed around with several with good results.

That said- with the WSM I've noticed that rough feeding is almost always associated with CRF rifles. My WSMs are push feed and they're like glass so I don't know if that's just incidental or a real issue.

The Model 3 was never imported into Canada. It was a very sharp looking rifle, and one I would have enjoyed picking up. I do have a number of CRF actions shooting WSMs, and all feed quite smoothly. I've shot a fair number of rifles built on MRC actions, and all were excellent for feeding and shooting.

I looked at a Model 3 (stainless with a nice "featherweight" styled wood stock) many years ago. It was one of three 300WSM Model 3s this particular shop had in stock, on clearance. I wish I'd had the $500 they were asking, at the time. I never tried any ammo through it, so I can't speak to real feeding. I can say it was glass smooth to cycle and felt incredibly well-fit to my hands and shoulder. The wood to metal fit was excellent, as was the finish on both. It was a great rifle and at $500 was a phenomenal deal. But, alas, at the time, if houses had been selling 2-for-a-nickel, I couldn't have bought doorknobs. Wish I'd run up on a deal like that again...

Here is mine. The CZ model 3 is built with a MRC action. I believe they are an exact copy of a M70. Mine is a 300wsm and shoots well. I shoot 150gr NABs at 3400fps using Superformance powder while avg. less than 1" groups. It is much heavier barrelled than a featherweight. It handles and shoots well. I've had no feeding problems what so ever.

They are assuredly handsome rifles. When they were announced, I did all I could to arrange for one to travel north into the Dominion of Canada. No such luck.

Never seen one or fired one, but they have some great looking rifles. I haven't ever heard anything bad about them..

That is a very sharp rifle Scott. I like that alot.

The only negative, if it is one, is that the CZ/MRC action is cast and not forged, much like the M77. That wouldn't stop me in the least.

The feeding issues with the M70 is usually from a burr on the extractor that prevents the case from slipping by freely. I have had zero issues with the WSM's. That CZ model 3 action would be a wonderful platform for a custom build.

I have a model 3 in a 270 WSM, its a great rifle, shoots like a champ, mine is polished blued. I found mine on a smoking good deal-$500 bucks, most of the ones i had seen were stainless or matte blue. It shoots under a inch, the trigger is amazing. A gunsmith near me and a gun shop offered me 750 for it used, but no deal. The MRC is built like the old pre-64 model 70's stout and strong. If you can find one buy it, if the price is right.

Excellent information, gang. My thanks.

Always learning too it seems. I had NO idea any rifle action were cast metal. Interesting.

Who made the trigger for these?

The other (not to start anything) question is, if it's a M70 action copy, is it a "better" version? I have no clue how the pre64 and current M70 actions differ....or if there is more than one. Prices on the M70 rifles have a WIDE span it seems.

I do like this CZ and if I decide to pull the trigger on one...or not, finding what I am looking for will take some time but that doesn't scare me. Time I have. Naturally I find something I like and it wasn't made long.

Probably scare me to death to ask MRC to rebarrel one (just an option) but I ASSUME the barrel threading on these would match winchester barrel threads? Still in the planning stages. Lots undecided but do appreciate the information, greatly.

MRC is not a "better" copy; it is simply a copy. The actions tend to be substantial compared to Winchesters. They give the impression that they will hold up quite well.

Thanks, Mike. The webpage description of their features reads well. Looks like a goody to me.
Appreciate the info.

Thanks
God Bless

350,

I will be reporting shortly on the MRC 1999 action as I have one coming home with me next week. I intend to do as good of a review on it as I can.
