Went to Cabela's in Reno yesterday and got to look at all the shiny objects. There was one in particular that caught my eye and I must investigate it before I decide to get it.

Saw a few really nice looking Sako Barvarians. A Left handed Ruger in 375 Ruger with the ugly green laminate stock. A custom M70 in 375RUM and lots of others.

Had to check out the eyes as I'm being really slow on selecting a RF Bino. Got to look through the Leica HD-B they are definately impressive. I can't decide between them and the Swaro.

I also saw the first powder I've seen in a year. 2# of MRP. I guess it was a good day as I got outta the store and still had my wallet.

Good for you as you are kinda in a remote area if I recall, not a bad thing in most states but Cabela's has had a few powders online but limits keep anybody from getting anything to speak of ? Be careful as those Classic's are very good looking rifles, I am not buying any more rifles for at least a month :) got 2 now needing optics! Why we do not have a Cabelas here in ABQ yet is mind boggling ! Just look at the Cooper link as I do frequently it helps with a empty Visa :(! Just keeping it that way is tuff !

From the reviews I'd get the Swaro's even though I'm a Leica fan. I guess the Leica rangefinder portion is less than stellar in comparison.

That's the way I'm leaning Nathan. The one set I've played with at distance I've ranged a building at 1880 yards that's pretty darn impressive. For having an 1600 yard max.

My Swaro RF has been back to factory in Austria as all laser stuff gets sent back for repair, I think my spotter was so anxious about looking at Oryx he just put too much pressure on the range button and it broke in middle of my hunt? I have been known to leave my Swaro Bino's in the truck as the 8x RF works just about as good as the binos! I think you would be happy with either myself and I saw a used leica RF over on Snipers Hide in used optics forum ?

The RF is different in the bino's compared to the hand held RF, It's much better. The Leica was suppose to be better too but apparently it's a big failure.

If Swaro made a 10x or 12x with a 50mm instead of a 42mm I'd probably own a set and I'd even sell my Terrapin and one of my pairs of Leica bino's to help pay for them.

These are the RF's I use. I can't find anything to not like about them. I can consistently get readings out to 1500 on elk. Further is more hit or miss, but 1500 and under is easy. For me and my hunting, that is more than enough, plus the glass is really good. I would rather go without a spotter than these..

Yeah, I blew an overtime check on the Swaro "laserguide" rangefinder some years ago, and it was well worth it. Often when traveling light, I leave the binos & spotting scope in camp and just use the Swaro rangefinder as my only optic other than the scope on my rifle.

Good optics can make the hunt.

Dangit, I opened the link!

Easy to get sucked in, Kurt. Difficult to extract yourself without help. That's why we're here. Scotty will enable..., er assist you to extricate yourself from any predicament. And you know he is good.

Pretty sure I'm still a rookie compared to the Senior Enablers around here! Keep your wallet ratcheted down!

Goes by Mike. Runs this place like a tight ship.

Touché. Don't really deserve such credit. I learned from the best, however. I've been outstripped any of a number of apprentices, acolytes I say, who have exceeded all expectation at enabling. On the other hand, if those frequenting this forum weren't infected with RADD, it is doubtful they would have been perusing such columns in the first place. It is best to assist the sufferer to enjoy a momentary reprieve from the self-induced agony of anticipation by enabling acquisition of the appropriate firearm, I say.

Well, it would take care of two needs... an RF and good binocs.

Actual needs, not my unwavering desire for more superfluous rifles...

I'm with you there Kurt. They fill both roles really well. Probably my most used piece of gear besides my Eberlestock X2 and my boots.

That is a good price for that particular RF.

Is recommend them all the way for a hunter. Probably get the 8x's though. I think 10x is too much in the woods.

I was going to suggest the ziess as a RF/ Bino combo, but see I'm late to the game.
Just a side note the Swarovski ones of a buddy's seemed awkward for a right handed guy, he's a lefty and likes them. I still like my lieca LRF 1600, it's light and at 7x makes for quite a good monocular . Compared to my old bushnell and leupy RF's the Leica works much better, I've ranged pillowed in coyotes and foxes in snow covered hillsides that the others would not read. For me that was a major selling point.
