Dan shot his Whelen today. The load is 225grain ABs over 60.0grains of RL15. He'll be along shortly to give us a blow-by-blow.

I believe that rifle is coming along nicely, even if he does shoot it from the wrong side.

David,

I haven't heard from you in a while. Good to see you posting. This rifle will shoot. Now, if only we can get Dan to live up to the potential.

Wow, Dan is there.
That load and zero will cover North America.

He says he didn't have his Chrony with him, so he can't verify the velocity. However, I'd suspect it is sufficient for a Saskatchewan moose, or an elk, or any deer he might encounter out there. It is an enviable group, that's for sure.

That rifle is really starting to shoot:)
I am going to play with elevation. I would like it 2" high @ 100yds.
That is Scotty's load I am using thank you very much for all the help you guys are giving me
It is a confidence thing I will be out again next week:) I am having a new trigger installed in 270 win CDL it will be ready next Monday.

Blessings,
Dan

Whoa David!!! You want a 35 Whelen?!?! A left handed one? Where is the .280?

By the way great shooting Dan. You got her dialed in for sure.

Dan, that load is DONE buddy! Way to GO!!! Man, that brings a huge smile to my face buddy. I am not sure anyone could ask for anything more than that. I am going to guess you are right on the 2700 FPS mark. That is serious power right there. I can't wait till you lay into a buck or bull with it. What an AWESOME rifle you have there. I knew it was going to be impressive. So glad you got it dialed in.

Can't help much with the 270 unless you go to the WSM though. Should you jump into a WSM, I have your back there!

Great shooting buddy. I haven't seen many Whelen's that won't shoot that load well, +/- a .5 grain.

I believe Dan needs to sell it, to me!

David, might wanna take a peak here. I think you could make this rifle a part of your 06 family. I think we could help you make it shoot too!

This is what my rifle did with 60 grains of RL15

Other than the shanked shot, it has been very consistent. 61 tightened up a little more, but anywhere in the 60-61 range is pretty awesome in my book. There has to be something to it. I know there are a ton of others that have done well with about the same load.

Scotty, that rifle would be too good for David. He'd have something that killed elk like they'd been hit with the hammer of Thor. He likes to chase his elk a ways.

David unfortunately there are a number of people ahead of you in-line for this rifle :).
I really believe that now that it is shooting the way I was hoping it would that Mike is going to cross over to the left side & make me a offer .
Seriously those I know now if I could only keep one of my rifles it would be this Whelen it gets more comfortable with each shot ( just seems to get smoother as well).
JD I did not use the X7 bags this time with the Whelen but will be from now on:) I did use it on the weatherby that I had out and it worked excellent.
I will be loading up a 100 Whelen in the 225gr. ABs if I can get some more new brass.
I still want to shoot the 200gr. ABs out of her as well before Whitetail but I won't touch anything on her now until after Moose season in October.

Blessings,
Dan

It'll never happen, Dan. Besides, I have a very fine Whelen in my own arsenal.

Yes Mike I believe you do, but there is something wrong with the bolt

Blessings,
Dan
