Death of the Marlin

The only issue with the Italian replicas is that they do not take 44000 psi.

John, --Fotis is correct, however, Chiappa makes good guns and they test them at 35500 psi. For years the old 45/70 Govt took a lot of game so if you like the the gun Chiappa manufactures, I would not shy away only because of the psi issue. I am as guilty as the next in wanting more, of everything. If you look at my above post I was trying to sell Scotty on a 50 alaskan lever action, which is even more powerful than the modern day 45/70.

Scotty, speaking of guns, those are some very nice Marlins. Very nice!

Thank you Sean!

Don't really have to sell me on much.. I was sold before you even logged on!

If I see a serial # starting with MR (Marlington) I will NOT buy!

Learned to shoot with a Marlin 39 "Mountie" - a short version of the 39A, when I was just a kid. Dad still has that rifle, and my own 39A is my absolute favorite rifle ever, hands down.

Have owned a few other Marlin lever guns in .30-30 and .45/70 and it's jsut a darned shame what has happened to a once respected firearms maker. These days the only Marlins I have are an older 39A, and a Glenfield .30-30 that I picked up not long ago. The old Marlin company wasn't perfect, and guns were turned out that were below par, but by and large they were good, working-class rifles. Reliable, accurate, decently made, effective, and fun to shoot.

I surely do hope that Marlin quality comes back up, but I'm not sure that's going to happen.

Guy

That is an awesome rifle Fotis. I hope you hold onto that and/or I am standing really close when you start having a case of the shakes and need to sell it.

You got dibs but it ain't gonna be cheap!

Man, I am actually hoping you hold onto that one. It is one of them rifles where you won't see that kinda quality for a long time. A guy couldn't do much better than that in the 45-70.

I really like it because it is really unique. Not too crazy about the 24" tube; though it does hold 8 rounds of raw horsepower!

Not bad, Fotis. I actually don't mind the 24 inch barrel. Your is a nice one.
