I promised myself to sell a couple of "toys" to pay for the Swaro Z5 scope I bought last winter. Well I am sellling one rifle but decided to keep my BAR ShortTrac 300WSM. I bought a Vortex Diamondback HP 2-8x32 to use this as my "woods/brush" gun. I have it loaded with 180PT, about middle load. This package weighs about 8.5lbs ish loaded. Not the lightest but not too bad.
We have some timber / brushy canyons and ridges that a 75yd shot is a long shot. I have taken elk from there with muzzleloader but have not hunted with rifle in these locals.
Just getting prepared.

The BAR is a fine rifle and the 300WSM is a great cartridge. Don't think you are making a mistake in keeping this rifle. Trust you do get opportunity to tag some good game with the rifle soon.

I don't remember their names but there used to be a Sports show with 2 brothers, here in Utah. They and their Dad all used BARS; 2 7mm Rem Mags and 1 300 Winchester mag. They drug those big rifles all over the place and killed a ton of good animals. I just can't remember their names right now...my point is that the BAR is a viable and accurate rifle for all big game, and a lighter one is always better for the mountains/canyons, ha. Good luck to you Pard. BTW- I have an older Belgium BAR in .270 that is a shooter and not too heavy with a 2x7 on it.

The BAR is an interesting gun and your 300 WSM load will work as great in the timber as it will in open country. Good you were able to end up keeping it.

The BAR in the bush will work just fine and the 300WSM is a great all around calibre. I find it hard to sell the rifles once I have owned them !!

Blessings,
Dan
