Headed out this morning for a bit of time at the 200 & 300 yard lines at the North Central Washington Gun Club. Took my son's 6mm Remington, my .30-06 and my .25-06 along, just to check - and because my son was busy at school, I decided to shoot his cool little 6mm Rem rifle, which I don't get to shoot often anymore!

The 6mm tossed 100 gr Nosler Solid Base bullets at a bit under 3,000 fps into the 200 and 300 yard targets with ease. This rifle never disappoints.

The ancient M1917 .30-06 again made me shake my head in wonder. I've been shooting this thing since the late 1960's. Dad was shooting it in the 1940's and 1950's. First shot out of it from prone rang that 300 yard gong clear as a bell. Shooting 165 grain Nosler Solid Base bullets loaded to 2,750 fps from the stubby 21" cut-down military barrel.

My .25-06 didn't play well at first, but settled down. Maybe it was the coffee I drank before trying to steady down with it? Hmmmm... Eventually the 115's were smacking the 200 & 300 yard targets nicely too.

Appears that all is set for mule deer season, which opens Oct 16th here!

Sorry guys, no photos, was having too much fun shooting these good ol' hunting rifles!

Guy,

You are ready!
I am sure you will be posting some pictures after 10/16.
Good luck to the both of you this season.

Guy,
Sure sounds like you are ready. Great day at the range is always nice. I think we should start a campaign where we write to some of these rifle makers such as Remington, Ruger, and Winchester to bring back the 6mm Remington. They really are missing the boat! I think Winchester was AFRAID to ever chamber it because it's a better round than the .243 and would outsell it!!

Remington quit making the 700 VLS in 6mm a while ago, and I wish I would have bought one. One rifle I have never seen in 6mm is an old school Remington Mountain Rifle, with the BDL floorplate and wood stock. I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat now! Is anybody chambering in 6mm anymore? I'd like to have another besides my 788.

Uh, sorry, I guess I got a little off track. Sounds like a good time, Guy!

Here's my wish list for both the .280 Remington and the 6mm Remington if we could ONLY get Ruger, Winchester, and Remington to listen!

Remington- Model 700 CDl with 24" barrel and laminate stock. Model 700 MTN Rifle with laminate stock and stainless barrel and up the 22" barrel to 24".

Ruger- Model 77 MKII Sporter with laminate stock and blue or stainless barrel. Would prefer barrel to be 24", but I'd take a 22 if they would only chamber the darn things.
#1B in a stainless wood laminate with a couple of small changes. Keep the shape and the design the same except for making the 26" barrel a 24" barrel and make it on a standard contour instead of the medium heavy contour to take just a bit of weight out of the rifle without making it too light! (Good idea isn't it!! )

Winchester: Never chambered the 6mm but I think it's high time they did! Only one model wish for these two calibers from Winchester. It should not be too tough for them to do.
Model 70 Extreme Weather SS with the Bell and Carlson stock that has the aluminum bedding block and stainless barrel in a 24" length. Stamp 6mm Remington and .280 Remington on the side of the darn things and they would go out the door like hot-cakes. :p

I love the 6mm remington. Great cartridge even though Big Green screwed the pooch with the twist originally.

BK-
Check out the Montana Rifle Company on the internet. They are based in Kalispell Montana and build would certainly appears to be a fantastic rifle and yes, you can get it in 6mm Remington!!! They make their own actions which are a mix of Mauser and Model 70, their own barrels, and they make a lot fo their parts on site or at locations nearby. The price really is not too bad either. I don't remember off the top of my head, but $1200.00 sounds like about right and probably up from there.

Guy

I lust checked their web site, and it appears that approx. $2100 is as low as they go. They look like fine weapons... my cousin has a Tac rifle built on one of their LH actions and he seems to like it a lot.

The Classic DGR caught my eye... ooh, .404 Jeffery (making grunting noises).
