Didn't Draw a Grizzly Tag This Spring

Mike, I am sorry to hear that you did not pick up a grizz tag for this spring. However, Mike if you do connect on a black bear maybe you & the Mrs. won't mind a tongue talker & his wife to come for a visit and maybe a Bear Brat BBQ. I will supply the refreshments Coke Classic & a Coke Zero or 2 :wink:.
We are hoping to make it up there again this June or July. We know a preacher that can stir the heart of a Pentecostal or two!!

Come on over, Dan. Bear opens April 1. May be a tad hard to see much that early, but I'm open to trying. :grin: I'm sure to tag one as mama wants some bear fat this year. Actually, that means a fall bear, but who's worried about a measly little detail such as that.

When your number does come up, Mike, I'm confident you'll have that Brenneke finely tuned. I'm with David, I need to get up to that country one of these days.

The Brenneke is finely tuned with the 250 grain AB at the present. It is launched at ~2700 fps and gives me consistent 0.5 inch groups. It will carry the load. The initial tests on the 300 grain A-Frame were yielding 2450 fps and 0.7 inch groups. I was pleased.

I have to believe it will deliver a mighty blow, Scotty. I know it delivers a pretty good kick. QL projects several powders that will move this particular bullet at well in excess of 2600 fps, which delivers two ton of energy at the muzzle. I'm using IMR4064 and RL19, and generating about 2500 fps, which is still pretty ferocious.

Yeah. That has to move you around a little that is for sure. Kind of excited to try some of the heavier bullets in my 35 Newton. Something about those big bullets moving around 2450-2500 just feels like they should do a lot of work and be very useable at normal hunting ranges.

When I've launched 280 grain A-Frames from the 35 Whelen, it has a decided punch to it. I suspect that would deliver a pretty good blow to a bear. It wouldn't be a bad load to carry this fall.

Nope. It is a hammer too. Just can't beat them 35's and 9.3's. I'd be very happy hunting just about anything with my Whelen and 250 PTs. Hard hitting and it'll reach out pretty well.

Truthfully, because I had a tag two years ago, it would have been nothing short of divine intervention had I drawn one this spring. Nevertheless, stranger things have happened. There is still good (great) bear hunting around here.
