Didn’t think I’d Actually Win It

Congratulations on your rifle. I am sure you will like it.

Not the same cartridge, but I had good luck with Reloder 23 in my 7mm WSM.

Here are some of the loads that worked for me in two different Model 70 chambered in 270 WSM.

Code:
WW CCI250 2.296 NOS 140 PT H 1000 72.5 3244 +/- 17 0.39 FN MODEL 70
WW WLRM 2.242 SIE 140 HPBT RL 19 62.1 2997 +/- 21 0.81 FN MODEL 70
RP WLR 2.269 SWF 140 AF H 100V 59 3110 +/- 6 0.35 FN MODEL 70
RP WLRM 2.26 SWF 130 SCI RL 19 67.5 3424 +/- 15 0.6 USRA
RP WLRM 2.775 SIE 130 SPT H 4831SC 67 3230 +/- 18 0.76 USRA
RP WLRM 2.299 NOS 130 AB IMR 4350 63 3114 +/- 15 0.79 USRA

I settled on the following for hunting. This load has accounted for moose, elk, whitetail, mule deer, and black bear.

WW WLR 2.352 NOS 130 E-TIP RL17 59.5 3257 +/- 14 0.42 FN MODEL 70

I don't run these loads particularly hot, though I do aim for accuracy.
Wow, your RL19 load is smokin! If I read it right.
Thanks everyone for the advice, I’ll take it all to heart. I’m looking forward to putting it through its paces.

Edit: It’s a very high velocity cartridge and I 100% plan on letting it breathe. That being said, accuracy will be what I’m looking for. The velocity will take care of itself. I don’t see the need to abuse the rifle or brass.
Without pushing the limits 3250 fps shouldn’t be hard to attain. If 3250 won’t do it I can’t see 3350 saving the day. I’m hard pressed getting a c&c bullet to stand up to 270 Win velocities.

I may try finding some 85gr .277 E-Tips to try in it. It would probably be the “instant off switch” for Whitetails. Nosler shows 100 grain bullets at 3600+. I bet that little E-Tip would cook along at 3800+.

See, what happens! I was fine. Minding my own, and BOOM……….i relapse! I’ve gone full on Thelma & Louise and drove the car off the cliff. New to me rifle on the way, dies on the way………….now I’m sneaking into my home office searching the net for reloading supplies all over again. I was doing so well too. Hi my names Joe. I’m a reloader.

Hi Joe. I'm a reloader too. :D

Great score. For quite a number of years my 270 WSM accounted for elk and deer. Excellent cartridge, and mine has just shot everything real well. I haven’t used it in awhile just cause, well it was a front runner for so long.

RL22 and 7828 were favorites back when I started then the newer stuff like 26 showed up, but honestly anything from 4350 up to Retumbo has worked excellent in mine with 130 through 150’s. 26 will do 3150’ish pretty easily with 150’s. The V powders deserve a look as well. Overall, it’s just an excellent cartridge that I hope you enjoy as much as I do.

Mines at the gunsmiths waiting for him to put the new 1-7.5 Krieger on it. It’ll remain a 270 WSM, just with a little more RPMs for the newer, longer bullets available.

I would think the 165 ABLR with a .620 BC would crush elk both near and far. Nosler states you need a 9T so your 7.5T Krieger should really shine.

I would think so. I know they used a 8 or 8.5 for the 27 Nosler so I decided to add a little extra rpm since the WSM isn’t quite as fast.

And there's something to be said about a little extra RPM. I've got a 9.3 T in my 338 RUM.
