I just tried to resize some 300 win brass.Using my stony point head space gauge,I measured new brass, then once fired brass.I wanted to bump the shoulder back .002 for hunting loads. But the die hits the shell holder before it hits the shoulder. Can i file on the mouth of the die? I don't want to file on the shell holder.I am using RCBS dies.Or is there another fix to this problem? Thanks Ron.

Shellholders are cheap....way cheaper than dies. You don't even have to file it perfectly straight as the top of the shellholder has a ton of "non needed" material on top and it wont' affect any part of the resizing process.
I took a couple of excess shellholders and held em with a vice grip and pushed them against the side of my grinder wheel till about .020" removed. They now work perfect with a couple of dies that needed that help.
I STRONGLY RECOMEND YOU TACKLE THE SHELLHOLDER TOP.

ronco, don't file anything. Don't try to set your FL die to partial size until the cases start to get snug in your chamber. Your case stills has some more stretching to do. But if you want to knock the shoulder back from it's current position, get a set of the Redding Competition shell holders for mag cases. They are made for just what you are trying to accomplish.Rick.

The redding shellholders will have the opposite effect of what he needs. He needs less headspace.....not more.

If he wants to push the shoulder back from it's current position, they will work. I didn't mean for him to do so, advised to let them continue to stretch.Rick.

Kraky,it makes sense to grind the shell holder and not the die.I all ready had a extra shell holder anyway.Ground off .020 and works perfect.Thanks.
