So the hunt is on. Where can I get a trigger guard magazine floor plate for a M70 for when I change stocks?
It was made some time between 1992 and 1970 from what I've read. I had found a web page to look up the serial number but can't find it now.

I would call Winchester directly and speak with their parts department. They have been very good to me. It may take a minute or to to get them on the hook, but once you are there, they have been very helpful and the prices are reasonable from all I can tell..

That's a great looking donor and like Gerry said, it should be an excellent feeding rifle. Heck, that is a very good looking donor to my eyes.

Thanks Scotty
I'll give them a call. It was made up in New Haven I guess by USRAC before they shut the plant down, though it has all the Winchester markings on it including the proof mark on top of the barrel.

Used Thompson one piece bottom metal and Grade two New Winchester stock. It always was accurate, now is pretty and accurate like in true half MOA rifle. Rifle was 1996 model USRAC.

1: Looking at some take off stocks and was wondering if one of a 300WSM would work?

2: I measured the action screws and came up with 7 9/16" between the back trigger guard screw and the front action screw. Some are listed as 7 5/8", which is right?

3: Next question, has any one used OEM stocks from Numrich Gun Parts ? Are they rit and miss or are they new with out damage?

A 300WSM will not work. All you need for a stock is a long action post-64. Pay close attention to the bottom metal inlet as the 1 piece isn't compatible with the 2 piece and vise versa.

Thanks nvbr. I'm looking at a new OEM stock from Numrich that will take the one piece bottom metal.
Need metal so I guess I'll get after market from Stockys, Winchester wants too much for the complete bottom metal.

All of the Model 70's made before 2005 are two piece bottom metal. The Model 70's made by Browning are one piece. Also there is a plastic adapter available for about $10 which will convert the two piece stock to one piece bottom metal. There is one for the long action and one for the short action stocks.

I don't know if they have any left but I picked up a supergrade M70 stock for less than 200$ a while ago from Numrichs. Now I have to build something with it!
Scott

Muleman I didn't see any Super grades but they have some LWTs and standards. I was looking at a standard.

I'd look to PT&G for bottom metal, a one piece CM metal cost about $100 last time I checked. I'll have to look but I think I have a SS two piece bottom metal around somewhere, and if you have it coated it won't matter that it's stainless. Check CDNN for stocks as well if you are looking for something, they usually have some new Winchester stocks and the adaptor to make adapt a two piece floor plate to a one piece stock.

If you order a stock from Numrich look for bottom metal too.

I have and they don't have everything in one piece and not enough pieces to make one.
I went to PT&G web page and they have what I need just not Winchester OEM.
The stock I'm looking at is a M70 Sporter style.

also checked CDNN and they only had a Coyote in long action everything else they had was for short actions.

Things are moving fairly fast. I ordered a new Winchester sporter stock from Numrich and have some metal coming from an acquaintance on the 24hr campfire forum. Both total cost a buck95 add on the rifle 280 for a total of 475.
After Christmas I'll contact JES and see about the rebore. I'll probably have a little over 700 when all is said and done.

I think that is a great price to have it all.. Your doing really well..

Nice that it is coming together now for you, when you get it all done maybe send a pic to Winchester, maybe they will get some ideas and actually chamber it from the factory ;)

Now you're talking, Gerry. Truly forward thinking.

I've picked everyone's brain here so far on this project and have had very good direction.
Thanks to all who have responded.
But it's not done yet.

Well the stock and bottom metal arrived yesterday so I stuck the barreled action in the wood to see what it will look like when I'm done. So here's a few pics.
